Re: Day 2 wheel suggestions?
Looks great Rich. That Nova and Grady's Nova are the 2 cars I based my Cragar/cheater slick wheel package on. BTW Rich, do I see stickers on those tow tabs?

That is a great looking car Rich!

I'm talking about the wheels on my El Camino in my sig. Those SS wheels didn't start until 69, and they were all 14"x 7" wide. Maybe Colvin's is talking about the Rally wheels/they came in many different sizes...14",15" and 6", 7", & 8" wide. The 14"x7" SS wheels on my Elky are the only ones I know of, that Chevy used. |
Re: Day 2 wheel suggestions?
Yes, Rich, Grady and Bill have done a great job. Here is another example of how you can't go wrong with Cragars on a Nova.
http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...ACN2011178.jpg Here are some other choices. Spyders? They are probably easier to find than old Keystones. These Keystone are not like the ones you can buy today. http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...ldsSpyders.jpg/PxTx/Funston002.jpg.html]http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...Funston002.jpg[/URL] http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...ACN2011192.jpg I know I've got more examples. Let me see what I can dig up. |

Re: Day 2 wheel suggestions?
AHHH, Shallcross Bros. Pro Stock nova! One of my favorites! A Jenkins Competition motor. Is Tommy Johnson's a Gibb Nova?
|
Re: Day 2 wheel suggestions?
Well, Cragars are what I'll do on my 68 for sure. Just have to decide on tires. Thinking BFG Radial T/A's with 235/60/15's for real world driving, and I plan on doing trips, life is short.
But, the Wide Ovals just have that killer old school look. Not sure what would fit / look best. G60 x 15's or 14'S? |
Re: Day 2 wheel suggestions?
don't know I would do G's in the front. Maybe just the back? 14's would be ok. That is what they came with. A little taller and wider in the back then in the front in my opinion.

The car looks hot! Since you already have the radials, go with the Wide Ovals! |

That Econo Blaster Nova just reminds me so much of all the Novas around when I was growing up, love it.

So, right now my 215/70/14's are 25.9 high, same as stock I believe. 3.73 posi rear,so my speedo is correct. My 14 x 6 Torq Thrust wheels have 3.375 backspacing. Now, how about Wide Ovals F60 x 15? These would be 25.9 high but much wider. The Cragars would be 15 x 7 with 4.125 backspacing. My car has the front 4 piston caliper factory front brakes. How would that fit & look? Anybody have pics of F60 x 15's on a Nova? |
Re: Day 2 wheel suggestions?
Go with something DRC and let us know how you make out. Do like most of us do....have a driver set of radials with the Cragars or Torques and have a "local" driver set of Cragars and nylon thumpers. Maybe get a hold of Donny White (GTO DON) and visit his vast assortment of tires and wheel combos at his shop. That may help make up your mind. He lives in Philly.
|
Re: Day 2 wheel suggestions?
That's a good idea Sam...GTO Don has many rare original and repo tires to choose from. Bound to find a good set there for sure.

Re: Day 2 wheel suggestions?
15's are easier tires to find. The largest 14" Goodyear available is a G70-14. I do not know what Coker has. For 15" Goodyears, you have E, F, and G in 70 series. For 60 series, you have E, F, G, and L's!!!!

15s always look too big on a nova to me. Fat tires on 14's are cool though. |

That rally Nova looks just great on the street and track set ups!!!!

Off hand I do not know but I will get them for you. The car is in storage at the moment.

Re: Day 2 wheel suggestions?
All the examples are great but these are the best examples of Cragar wheels/tires.
It looks best if you can fill the wheel wells....front and back. IMO Kurt http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps986fc796.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...cture60081.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-100_41821.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...cn20111781.jpg |

This thread has some good info. Here is a great one from it: 15x4.5 Fronts 195/65/15 15x8 Rears 5 3/8" backspacing 275/60/15 http://s892.photobucket.com/user/New...S/IMG_0030.jpg I would run an L60 out back and prefer the tallest skinny I could up front, but the rim sizes and offset are right! |

Cragars are sooooo period correct.
I have 8" rear mounted on L60x15 and 4.5" up front on F78-15 Firestones. Lousy ride; great look.

THAT THING IS SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What sizes are on there? |
Re: Day 2 wheel suggestions?
In the post just before the pic are the specs.
15x4.5 Fronts 195/65/15 15x8 Rears 5 3/8" backspacing 275/60/15 For some reason my link was broken. Doing things on my phone, it was just easier to post the pic in a new post. Sorry for the confusion. My point was the 5 3/8th back space. I think that is the most you can do on a 15x8 Cragar. I think a true L60 on the back with the right offset Cragr will be a huge hit at all the events you'll drive to. I actually think the car I posted sits a bit too low in the front. I would lean towards a taller tire there, but the 15x4.5 wheel it right in my book. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: DRCBOWTIE</div><div class="ubbcode-body"><div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: pxtx</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/a...S/IMG_0030.jpg </div></div> That sits real nice, what are the wheel (size & backspace) / tire specs if you don't mind? </div></div> |
