Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
Thank you Rita! We had our trailers parked next to each other that weekend and spent a bit of time talking. She invited me out to LeHarpe. Sadly I could never make it out, something I always regret.

Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
Man I love that eight track on the console! Is that the way they were originally? Jim G

Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
Thanks Jim! Ash Gold with Ivy gold interior.
Yes, that is where they put the 8-Track. Kind of a crazy place to put it, but there is no room for it anyplace else. It does make a great arm rest, too bad you can see it light up or read the control knobs. Kind of hit and miss every time you need to adjust it. I use it with a 8-track to cassette adapter, then a cassette to 1/8 output jack to plug my iPod in it. Retro with a modern touch...Sounds great and no need to butcher up my interior with modern stuff. Almost time to crank up a little Aerosmith.... "Back in the Saddle" BIG |
Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
Cool, I just picked up a Chevrolet eight track for the deuce. I got a list of things to do to it this spring and the eight track is on that list. Jim G

Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
Spent the weekend at the Cleveland Rocks Chevy Show put on by the CCI/ State Reps/ Ecklers. We had some nice weather and a nice turn out of cars, lots of Tri 5's. The last time I did one of their shows was in 2000, time flies! Today's awards were a nice surprise, scored 987/1000 Platinum, First in class, Best paint, & Best Interior.
Here's a pic from Thursday, the lot had not filled up yet. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3528-image.jpg |

Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
Thank you all for the kind words! It’s the good friends around me that make this hobby enjoyable.
In all honesty, I don’t think it’s fair to use the Platinum label on this car. In that show circuit or any other. Some shows are a bit more dependent on judging teams that forgive or just plain overlook a lot of sins. It is what it is I guess. Just more surprised a Gold/Green car got some kudos in a sea of Red’s and Blue’s …..First time for everything right? BIG |
Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
Pictures don't due this car any justice!! It is stunning in person and probably one of the nicest 68 Camaros around!! Congrats Steve!!!

Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
Thanks Phil!
I have to laugh, got my judging sheets back on Fri and smiled when I got gigged for sloppy trunk weatherstrip adhesive and Dum-Dum under my washer nozzles.....I think the Norwood guy's would disagree! BIG |
Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
That's why you should never have a great car judged at a local show...

I was there when he told you that! Background: When there was a missed element over at Fisher Body on the coach work it was often not caught until just before the car was sequenced for assembly on the Chassis side because there was no reason to really look. In this example the front of the tunnel was missing the hole for the standard transmission. This condition was corrected by cut off wheel and then final trimmed for clearance by the "Chisel man". |
Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
I've been hunting this piece for a few years. Finally got my prize! This showed up on eBay years ago for $99.95. No way was I going to pay that for a frame I didn't need. I like to own my hobby not the other way around. Anyway, the price dropped a little at a time and finally made it's way down to $9.99...time to buy.
Roger dean started as a Lincoln- Merc dealer in Athens Ohio before expanding to Chillicothe, Columbus and Lexington Ky. Not sure exactly when he got his Chevrolet franchise, but I do know why. His love for the Corvette. So long Ford...Hello Charleston, Huntington WV, and West Palm Beach...it's still going strong today. Here is the frame along with some cool early shots: https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...dean_frame.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-dean_ford.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...dean_wagon.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...ean_t_bird.jpg |
Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
Nice score Big!!!!!!

Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
Here's some shots of his Chevrolet Dealer in WV. This was actually post Dean, he sold the dealer to Tag Galyean in 1971. It, like the Linc-Merc dealers in Ohio, was WV's largest Chevrolet dealer. They were the highest volume Corvette dealer as well...not sure for how long.

Neat frame Big, what time frame do you think that frame was from ?

Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
Tag was raised and is now the Location of the Clay Center in Charleston. All that remains is a radio jingle w/ Lloyd Bridges...

Thanks Sam! Here is some modern era Dean stuff. The West Palm dealer was a sponsor for the Gator Nats and also sponsored a TA/FC for Bartone. Here is a Crew shirt and a Die cast FC, They know High Performance! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...crew_shirt.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics..._funny_car.jpg |

Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
----When did Dean have his dealership in Athens (my old college town, Ohio U., from 66 thru 69)???......Bill S
|
Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
Not sure when the whole Ford thing went away...but it did. He was in Charleston, and West Palm with Chevrolet in 65.
Surprising because he made a lot of money thru financing since he owned the finance company. His Linc-Merc dealers did really well. BIG |
Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
Bill, I can't believe the amount of Dealers you remember. Your mind is a steel trap!
Here is a pair of shots from Athens. The first is the building prior to opening day, this was taken in 1946. The second was after taken in 1947. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...thens_1946.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...dean_wagon.jpg |
Re: Steve "Big" 's 68 Camaro
Here's where I think it gets interesting...
Dean opened a new Dealer in Columbus in 1955 with a price tag of a Million dollars...Huge. Then, I found a ad for his Ohio Chevrolet dealership in 1956....I think it was the Columbus location??? What happened to Ford? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...55_million.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...s_paper_ad.jpg |
