He once said: "I don't deserve to be in the Army". Maybe I don't deserve to be in the hobby, throwing away a Corvette part. Ridiculous. I am so ashamed. Still, I promise with a capital "P", that is far from the dumbest thing I ever did. Hmm... maybe I should start a thread. Top 5 dumbest things you ever did. |
Re: 62 Corvette Pure Stock Build
If you do decide to go with a "rules build" you'll have to change the carb. I don't know if they actually check carb numbers but you'll have to go with the smaller (4 1/2") air horn type of AFB.

Lynn,
I did not mean for it to sound like that!! I know I have kicked myself for stuff I have let go! It's all good! |

Boy, did this get hacked
|
Re: 62 Corvette Pure Stock Build
if you brought the car with that carb they would probably let you race but with the stipulation to change the carb for the next year's event. they are very understanding for first timers and want you to return. but again i would encourage you to call them. i think you'd have a good time.

When I show up, it will have the F.I. unit. I just dig F.I. cars

This will be fun to see race at PSMCDR.
I think extrude hone is not allowed. Ryan |

Re: 62 Corvette Pure Stock Build
those roller rockers have to go. they're not legal for pure stock drags.
Valve Train: The valve train must be factory stock for the year, make, and horsepower claimed. Re: 62 Corvette Pure Stock Build
Some buddies of mine are hardcore pure stock racers. They are making more hp with stock rockers than they are with all roller rockers except one particular brand and part #, so might actually make more power with stamped steel stock stuff.

Re: 62 Corvette Pure Stock Build
I'm waiting for parts before I can really progress much further. The air cleaner is mounted, fitted the ignition shielding as well as installed the left hand exhaust manifold. I am going to wait until the car is running and I am happy with the injection before changing the rocker arms.

Re: 62 Corvette Pure Stock Build
Just a suggestion learned from running these early Vettes hard, but you'll probably want to put some grade 8 bolts in the water pump/ motor mount attachment to the block. When you start racing the car you will have to check them frequently for being tight. Put some spare water pump gaskets in your track tool kit too. Use the thinnest gaskets you can find with very little or no sealant. Otherwise they will just squirt out and leak.

Good point. Advice taken!

Re: 62 Corvette Pure Stock Build
Scored a great deal from a friend. Used Dutchman axles from his 60 Corvette vintage race car (went to a Ford 9") Very stout compared to the originals.

Re: 62 Corvette Pure Stock Build
Per the suggestion of a site member (67 442) I contacted Sparky's Carb Service in Milwaukee for the zinc plating I needed. The work was excellent, reasonable, and quick. Time for an update.
I reassembled the rear diff with the new axles and new bearings in the center section. Back on all 4 http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...ps69dc548c.jpg Reassembled the F.I. unit with aforementioned plated parts. http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...psc0e30d20.jpg http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1a1c615e.jpg http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...ps15471ea5.jpg I fired the car up. Fixed a couple of small leaks....and it runs great, but could not get it to idle down (1700 rpm) Wouldn't you know.....the one thing I did not check..............the throttle body. The butterfly does not seal properly. You can throw a cat through the bottom side. Back to work! http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...ps42193025.jpg I'll just keep plugging along |

Re: 62 Corvette Pure Stock Build
Anything new with this build?
|
Re: 62 Corvette Pure Stock Build
Tim--Buy a couple of fuel pump cables. That was the weak point of the early fuel injection units. Back in the day they would break on a regular basis!

It has been on the backburner for a for a few reasons. My wife retired early and we have been spending some more time together (cruising the 59 all over the place). Business has been off the hook! . Not sure when I am going to get to the track with the car. It is finished and running good. Just bangin around town for now. |

Cannot say I am going to Rusty. Still been buried at work. I have been doing a little "testing" that has revealed I am real lean on the top end. With limited time, I have not been able to spend the time necessary to work through it. It's going to take some diagnostics from someone who is smarter at FI than myself. Pulls good on the low end but lays down up top and is not pulling a good MPH. The wait continues..................... Tim |

Re: 62 Corvette Pure Stock Build
I posted in the parts wanted section. Looking for a complete 4.56 center section of someone has one at a nice price. Otherwise, I'll stick with plan A and build one.
Thanks, Tim |
Re: 62 Corvette Pure Stock Build
Tim--I have the 4:56 center section out of our 409. Make me an offer-tell me what it's worth.
