That looks like a lot of fun. What a great way to honor "COPO Pete". We were still thrashing up to the last minute, but our car was not ready. See everyone there next year. </div></div> Stefano, we missed you Dan |

Re: SCR16 Pics
What an awesome weekend!!!
First and foremost, seeing Pete’s cars together was unbelievable, and spending time with Vicki, Eric, Owen and the many other family and friends from North of the border was extra special.. Thanks to all who made it happen. Hats off to Jeanne and the staff at Gateway Motorsports Park who really rolled out the red carpet for us. On Friday we they allowed us easy access to the drag strip to park, unload and hang out for a while, then for two hours we had the whole drag strip to ourselves. Hats off to the many owners who took to the track, as it is always cool to see these special cars do what they were built to do. Once we put the cars away, we went to a local restaurant, Ravanellis, who provided us with an awesome meal. And it was nice of Vicki to say a few words about Pete, I am sure it was not easy. For Saturday’s activities, Gateway had us set up inside the oval track next to the show area, where we had special parking for our tow rigs, a covered area (NASCAR garages) to display our cars, as well as sit and relax. We were to make a pass Saturday morning but a little glitch popped up preventing this, but mid afternoon several of our group got to make a couple of passes around Gateway’s NASCAR track, with at least one member “airing it out” as he went down the backstretch. Needless to say this is frowned upon by the Gateway staff, which no doubt as Pete was watching from above, he had a good laugh. Saturday evening we were able to make a pass down the 1/4 during “prime time”. To top it off, Gateway even had special dash plaques for us, honoring “COPOPETE”. Mine will be proudly displayed on the dash of the Deuce. Not only were we honoring Pete’s memory, but Bill Hunter was there, who just happens to be an original owner of a Yenko Camaro. This past year he lost both his wife, who always traveled to the SCR with him, and a good racing buddy, who Bill raced at one of the past SCRs. Bill made a side by side pass with his good friend’s son Saturday evening. In addition, Keith Shockley was there with his family’s Yenko Camaro, which, along with his late father Jim, has participated in several SCRs. Before we left, Gateway extended an invitation for the SCR to return to their facility in 2014. Sounds good to me. In closing, thanks to Bill and Rita for the special artwork, Cumby for the stickers and dash cards, Dan for the great pics, and the many who pitched in to pay for the banquet meal. If I have missed mentioning someone who helped make this very special event happen, please accept my apology. |

When Gateway told me/Rob about it, we both said thanks, but we seriously doubt any of our group will want to do that. Then Saturday afternoon, as the show cars went by us headed onto the oval, we noticed several from our group headed that way, so I told Rob to get Drew and join them with the '69 Nova. |
Re: SCR16 Pics
The pace laps did look like fun but I barely had enough fuel to load my pig back in the trailer.
Howie thought about it but his speed & RTs were so bad he woulda been two laps down on a four lap run. More on that soon. |

Dan & others, Thanks for posting all these great pictures & stories for those of who couldn't make it. I was there in 2011-12 and won't miss another for just a 4 hr drive. Looks like a great day at the track. Watching You & Donnie I am really starting to like the 69 Chevelle's. George

Re: SCR16 Pics
OK, here's the story, For those of you who know Howie, ....... well, .
But over the past months Kim has quit smoking, given up drinking, started exercising, and most importantly quit having heart attacks! He has dropped some weight and looks great. So much so, you might not recognize him. Evidently his body is having issues adjusting. The car still runs strong on 114 octane gasoline, ....... but it appears the driver might have performed better on alcohol. Seriously; just a fluke run, but who can pass up an opportunity to hammer on Howie???? Thanks Kim. Good to spend some time with you again! Special Thanks to the Clary family for putting this all together again. The venue worked out very well. Easy in; easy out; comfortable, shaded accomodations, ...... I like it! Hope things work out for 2014 and future years. Had fun at Joliet, ..... but this felt like we were back home. |
Re: SCR16 Pics
Yes..Howie's life style change has him really looking fit and trim.
As per his car, in fairness to Kim, he had not messed with the car in over two years. I know first hand it will do low 10s easy. Unless something really unexpected happens, the SCR will return to Gateway/Collinsville. |
Re: SCR16 Pics
Do we have any recent photos of the sexy trimmed down Howie we can share....
And good for you Kim. Looks like you guys had a good time. Mike |

Re: SCR16 Pics
WOW, he does look good! I wonder if he is still as much fun as before? Go Kim Go!

I'll agree with thinner. Good might be an overstatement.

Yep we got an upgraded from a family sedan. Worked out well with delivering a door and picking up some rims. Barnhart is a great guy and can't say enough about him. He had some tough luck those few days but I think he may adopt me someday. I will cherish the moment when he let met sit in his car and he totally #%&#ed his winch up pulling ZL1 into his trailer (this photo with be placed in my mancave forever). Oh and Doug spilling the $10 a gallon fuel on the ground. Good times! And Mark's twins learned the "skeeter on my peter song", he should proud. If you missed.... you weren't there! Joe |
Re: SCR16 Pics
Note to Mr. Barnhart: Adoption papers can be provided, and limited funding for legal transfer possible. Please inquire ASAP.
