Re: 34.2 Mile 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 Video
You'd be a darn fool to molest that "ls6 piece of art" (I WOULDN'T MIND VIOLATING IT A LITTLE THOUGH ) and to even think about making it into a pro-touring? Thats even more abhorrent then wanting to drive that car. I'm still in med. school, haven't quite made it to the brain surgeon status yet, i'm just a Proctologist. Kind of like the Mist Green LS6 (though that could be argued) and the Benchmark LS6.

Re: 34.2 Mile 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 Video
If I had this car I would preserve it like the previous owners and trailer it to cars shows just to piss off all the people who would like to trash it and drive it into the ground.
Nice original car and see no problem with how its lived its life. To each his own!!! |
Re: 34.2 Mile 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 Video
A totally different car but would you thrash the 67 maroon ko- motion vette that was owned by Charlie Snyder? Some cars are meant to stay as is

Re: 34.2 Mile 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 Video
well there is a slight difference between enjoying, respecting V/S trashing or running something into the ground. some folks think just be cause you have a high performance car you have to dog it to death or beat on it all the time, thats why, as all you know, a lot of these cars didn't survive back in the day. took them past there limits. i'm more then happy just to cruise. You ever gone to a cruise nite or be at a stop light and some moron yells at ya to light-em up or lets see what it will do?, those to me are the ones that don't know how to respect anything, they are the ones that will trash or run them into the ground. I bought a (cover your ears) mustang 5.0 in 89 new with a 5-speed. sold it with well over 100,000 miles on it, still had the original clutch, original plug wires, went thru 3 sets of 4, tires and 1 set of brakes. only thing i did to that car was changed gears to a 3:55, hurst shifter & SVO exhaust. I had alot of fun with that car, but i respected/enjoyed it. Jim

I know what you guys are saying about preserving history and all that but heck, isn't it like having a wife and then not having...a...you know what with her?
She's got to be driven or it isn't worth the time you have in it. |

Re: 34.2 Mile 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 Video
If everyone drove theirs then there wouldn't be one's like this to piss off those who think it should be decades later. The collective discipline of the current and former owners to keep the miles as low as possible is commendable. It also makes it more valuable as mentioned the woods are full of em. To each his own, we are just caretakers of them really

----Rick,,,Its funny you bring up the Mist Green LS6 as I drove it way more than the 34 mile car. Ill bet I put at least 200 miles on it!!! Theres very little originality left on the Mist LS6 even though I love it. Probably just the interior, although I havent seen it in a while......Bill S

Re: 34.2 Mile 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 Video
They made 4475 LS6-equipped vehicles. The answer is go buy another one if you want one to drive. Not like they are hard to find. You wouldn't sit down with a mint condition, first edition of a Hemingway novel worth tens of thousands of dollars eating a peanut butter sandwich and drinking coffee. Your local bookstore has a dozen copies of the less valuable, readable version on its shelves for that purpose. |

There's an editorial in the new Hemmings Muscle Machines about the guys who trash other people's cars under the auspices of being "all-knowing" as to how a car should be. (I believe the Internet has made this problem worse.) So yes, let's leave the few rarities such as this car alone so that there will continue to be a reference point for future restorers and enthusiasts. |

That assessment is pretty much dead-on, Bill |
Re: 34.2 Mile 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 Video
----Thanks for the back-up, Bill. I was the second owner of that LS6 and have always thought that Rick (the original owner) ordered it just about right for late night "excursions". It was a bad boy in its day, and definetly not stock (only stock looking). Back then I took it as far as I needed to to sell it as I had a partner (my boss!) that wanted to sell and I didnt have the moola to buy him out. Would have liked to keep it. Subsequent owners have had thier time with it and thakfully have stepped up to the plate and restored it nicely. I really didnt do the car any favors back then, but liked it immensly.......Bill S

Re: 34.2 Mile 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 Video
Wow, lots of thoughts on this car! Personally, I'm in the "Don't drive it" category. After seeing this car in person, I believe it's evolved beyond a car.. it's more of a historical relic that could never be "un-driven." As many pointed out, there are thousands of other LS6 cars to drive. But it does kinda suck for this one to be the car who had to watch life from the sidelines. Super cool, none the less. I'm just glad I had the chance to spend some time with it!
