Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
Since I don't own the car, it's easy for me to say I could live with that dent. The real me says I'd fix it; and the car still qualifies as a survivor (as long as you don't go crazy with the paint gun and fix a bunch of other stuff too).

Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
Looking at the photos it seems there is a lot of the original parts gone like the complete smog system and exhaust manifolds,
it even has Hush Thrush mufflers. There is history that some things are long gone that were original like the battery cables etc... I understand it has the original paint but with a lot of parts missing or changed is it really a survivor? |

Unfortunately someone changed it out to a original correct unrestored date coded complete smog system with chambered exhaust and rally wheels..bummer.. |
Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
Since it's missing some parts smog etc.,Could you make it a Day 2 survivor ? I am curious what part of Ohio this car came from ? I have the yellow Z that Van had found in calif. and it has the smog on it but do you keep it on? Or put a nice set of coated headers with chambered exhaust ? How many out of ten still have the smog verses taken off and pitched ? I would think most were taken off and pitched .... I know if mine had nicer paint I would have cleaned the bottom and have some fun .. Cause since it's not perfect you can drive it and have fun park it and not worry about if someone parks close .....

Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
Hey guys, I have 112 pics of Kens Z that I copied when his car was first on ebay. I want to get to him but have no idea what or how to take this on. All are in bitmap. Any ideas will help. I have to check on the pic sizing and maybe convert to jpeg format. Is there a way to do all that at one time?

Hey Mike is that Kens car? I have 112 different photos if it is.

Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver

Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
Hey Ken...it might be a bit before I can get the pics to you. The file is 152 MB and the pics are in bitmap format. I think converting to jpeg may help cut back on the MB's but once I get that done I'm not sure how to get the file to you, Unless I email a few at a time. Any computer savvy people have any ideas how to do this? I know of no other way. My Microsoft Paint software is as far as I can go to changing them to Jpeg format and resizing them.
|
Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
Gary,
Use this software to convert all of them at once The software link is in the tutorial Then, if necessary, go to Dropbox-you can share HUGE files between two (or more) people Once both of you are signed up...you can share 152MB in one shot between each other |
Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
Thanks Bruce I'll give it a shot. Your always a help man.
|
Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
Hey Bruce you turned me on to that already. I didn't know I could use that program for that. I'm already a photobucket member too. I was thinking of just adding an album and Ken could copy from there and when he was done I could just dump the album.
|
Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
Ken...here's a link to what I'm thinking are the after pics of your X77. I can keep them on my photobucket account for a while so you can download your own copy. Let me know when your finished and I can delete the album. In the album they aren't in order as I put them in. They start at tn1 and end at tn112 but tn1 starts on the last page (#5)
http://s539.photobucket.com/user/fxs...t=3&page=1 Here is the link to my unrestored X33. Just a more dressed up version of yours. http://s539.photobucket.com/user/fxsgary...rt=4&page=1 |
Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
Gary, for that specific album, you can set up a guest password and send it to him...that way only he can see them....Look around in photobucket...it can be done

Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
Hmmm. Should I have made this for his eyes only? The link to my car is there as well. I don't mind if everyone looks at the pics of my car, but you are correct. Ken may not want these pics out there. Maybe he'll post and let me know what he wants to do.

Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
I don't mind the pictures being public, thanks for sharing. I removed the new paint off the engine.luckily someone just did a quick spray job.I used paint remover and it didn't hurt the original engine paint. Still can see the factory markings, pink lines on the back of the heads and light blue marks on the block.
Gary, Love your Z, is that your engine on the dyno? |
Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
Hey Ken, question. You know that god awful black paint that most of the used car dealers spray in the engine compartments to make them look nice and clean? Is there a way to remove that layer of paint without damaging the oem paint? I really hate that stuff, it looks so bad.

Have you tried Easy-Off oven cleaner in an inconspicuous test spot. Be careful breathing the stuff! ~ Pete |
Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
That can work well
|
Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
I have seen that noted in the past but didn't think there was an oven cleaner made today that was as good as back in the day. I can remember as far back as 75 a friend using it to clean oil off in the engine compartment. Said it works great.
So what kind would you recommend then? I haven't looked at a can of that stuff in many years. I'll have to check out the oven cleaner instead of the chicks when I go to the grocery store now. |
Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
I dont know if they still make it but we use to use Mr.Muscle oven cleaner and it would remove the car lot paint....
|
Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
Great poin on using oven cleaner to remove spray-bomb paint... I'm going to try that too.
|
Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
Be careful oven cleaner can strip to bare metal.
|
Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
Oven cleaner was an old model car builders' trick for removing paint from plastic. The oven cleaner would not attack the plastic but would soften amd remove the pant. There is no selective delamination on paint layers. It will attack all the paint at the same time.
When I used a pressure washer to remove the Ziebart rust preventative layer of oily goop from my trunk, that stuff came off pretty quickly but the factory trunk spatter paint was some really hard stuff to remove. |
Re: 69 Z Survivor Cortez Silver
On the black RS/Z I used enamel reducer on the innerfenders, rad support and hoses/wires etc, it left the original flowcoat black on all the parts.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-v...ompartment.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-l....14.10+330.jpg The front fender was wrecked in the early 70's I touched it up with black lacquer, 90-95% Original paint. Blow in Lacquer as long as there are not rust issues. After cleaning the paint very well multiple times I used Mother's show car glaze hand applied then a pure carnuba wax. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-d...iginal+033.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-1....03.11+014.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Q...450-no/002.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-v....14.10+401.jpg |
