Re: Vintage drag photos
Which track is your home track Verne?
|
Re: Vintage drag photos
The Market Square Motors '67 Z is actually Capri Cream with a black top and blue standard interior. Factory 4.56s, J56 HD brakes, and factory cowl plenum and header car. Have seen the Canadian documentation for this one.

Englishtown. That's where the photo of the '63 in the pits was taken. I don't think it was a Z-11 car. Verne |

Great shot! Thanks for posting. Most likely an LS6 (Looks like backwards B/S on pass. window - can't tell if there is an 'A' after the B/S)? Still around? Tow tabs and ladder bars look great!

Re: Vintage drag photos
LS-6 Auto, there's a black and white picture on page 4. I don't think it's still around.

interesting that car has painted 'headers by GM', but apparently looks to still have the smog in the photos. Unless my eyes decieve me?? Did any GM headers come with smog fittings? |
Re: Vintage drag photos
Ask Kevin DeWitte ("427425"), original owner (still owns!) of a white factory L72 Camaro. He had Berger (or Berger recommended) drill dealership installed headers for smog so as not to void factory warranty.

Re: Vintage drag photos
That LS6 is soo cool. It just looks like it means business. No flashy wheels, just steel, and minimal lettering. in the black and white pic it has 11.65 on the window. Is that a competitive ET in B/S in 70-71?
|
Re: Vintage drag photos
That would be the index for B/SA back then, I'd guess. I'd guess most of the cars in the pictures I'm posting are in the 12's. Pretty much all of them are sporting license plates.

Take a look at the color pic of king rat. It looks like the dial on the pass window says 11.57, and your copyright is 1971. The Black and white pic is 1970, and he has 11.65 on the window. Do you think the index would have gotten slower from 70-71? Not trying to argue with you or anything, im just pointing it out. Also it looks like in the later pics the steelies on the front are mounted on much shorter tires. Maybe he couldnt cut a light with the mags and taller fronts. I would love to know more details about this or any other 70 chevelle drag cars. You dont really see to many besides the famous blue ragtop. |
Re: Vintage drag photos
Yeah, that could be. I can find out what the car was actually running, I'll ask around. I've got more pictures of another 70 that was running out of Saint John at the same time, an LS-5 4 speed car called "Apollo" Pictures to follow.

The car started life as an L78 and was converted to an L72. Guy says the car is still around, has been stashed away for some time. (At least it's still alive, hopefully ?!)

. Anyone here anything from possibly Marty or Joel on these facts. Very Cool , didn't even notice the Motion sticker on the drivers quarter glass at first... |
Re: Vintage drag photos
This is "Apollo", before/after lettering.

Most have tow-tabs so the plates were probably needed to legally tow them.... Just saying..... |

Re: Vintage drag photos
When you sell a car in NB, the plate goes with the car. The style of plate changed sometime in the 70's. (note the different colors) I was wondering who'd notice that first!

Re: Vintage drag photos
That looks to actually be a '70 Acadian, not a Nova. That is where they placed the Acadian emblems. I had a documented 70 Acadian SS back about 14 years ago. Neat car, not a Nova, but sort of......Pretty sure I have copies of the documentation still.

Re: Vintage drag photos
that 68 is awesome!! Is this AHRA sanctioned? i didnt think NHRA allowed scoops in super stock, but i thought maybe AHRA did
|
Re: Vintage drag photos
I think Pennfield was always an NHRA track, not 100% sure. It don't the rules were always followed if you know what I mean...
I never met the owner/driver of "Hang em High", but he was involved with my Chevelle. |
