Looking good Jim,

How did he cut the qtrs in the door jamb? I know post qtr jambs are different than hard-tops. Any pix?

Keep it going. That will be a nice car when done.

Phil Woj.

Ken told me he was going to leave the inside of the door jamb intact and splice it in near the edge.

Re: 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Chevelle - Puchased

Just to clarify, nothing is attached. It's all just mocked up. Actually everything fit up well although the trunk drops always seem to take a fair amount of blessings to get them to mate up the way I want them to on Chevelles.

On the door jamb question, Jim's dog leg area is in excellent ahape. Not a big issue to leave the original jamb area and butt weld the new qtr on to it. My real job for 30yrs was welding. Not an issue to stick it together.

Re: 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Chevelle - Puchased

Ken,

Certainly nothing wrong with a butt weld along the door jamb seam, however to avoid more mud on the exterior of the car. This is how I did it on my last Post Sedan, it`s a bit more work but a great result, having a bit more body work inside of the door vs. the exterior of the car. The welds to the (coupe) quarter panels are made while the quarter panel is still off of the car.

I also posted these pics because Phil (Woj) had asked to see pics.

I think we're close to being on the same page. Nothing I do goes on the exterior, and there's very minimal body filler.

All reproduction parts have small nuances. When you work with them long enough, you adjust/ modify for them. Many have the same small issues NOS pieces have. That's why God invented mig welders, and plasma cutters. (big smile) </div></div>

I was wondering, with the car still on the frame how did you get the floors in being that the replacement floor is one piece. Maybe threw the windshield? Just curious! Seems the one peice is the way to go.

one piece floor is slid in place from underneath.
Here are some more pics as the sheetmetal work is completed and I'm bringing her home for a while. Many thanks to Ken @ Schoenthaler Restorations for a great job! The exposed areas were put in Red Oxide primer for now.
My plans are to get the chassis blasted and powdercoated next as my budget allows.

A reproduction tail piece was installed and had a few differences from an original piece.
Ken was able to massage it to fit as it should originally.

Re: 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Chevelle - Puchased

Yes Sam, that is the same poster girl. But I do have some others including a very nice calendar from Southern IL.

Install of the 1 piece floor does entail taking the frame loose from the body. I drop the bolts and lift the body high enough to get the floor slid in. (this is at least a two man job) You do need to get under the floor, under the car, and shove it in place to line up the body mts. Then you can lower the body back down, and make sure the mts are all aligned correctly. I sheetmetal screw it all in place before I weld it up, then weld up the holes after done welding it in place. I like this piece from AMD. The Camaro, Nova floors I like from classic. They are heavier. JMHO.
I did not like the tailpan part. It took modification, and I would not use this particular piece again. I did have some great conversations with George, who does work for Jeff Latondross. George is a great guy, and a wealth of information on these post cars.
The car is in dp70 primer only. No fill or seam seal work, and filler only at the qtr roof seam, and door jamb area as there needs to be blasting work done to other areas later. Then we'll smooth out any imperfections, or issues. No use getting paint ready when it may get bumped into during that time.
