Goodyear built F2G with the massive P&W R4360 4 row 28 cylinder engine. Only 10 were built as WWII come to a close.

This TB-25 was used by MATS (Military Air Transport Service), possibly as a proficiency airplane in squadrons that operated large 4-engined transports. They were also used in Air Training Command in pilot training squadrons for student pilots on their way to bomber and transport assignments. (Fighter-bound students went on the T-33.) When the USAF re-introduced the old style of dual-track flight training in 1994 they bought the Beechcraft T-1A "Jayhawk" (based on the original Mitsubishi MU-300, bought by Beechcraft and renamed the BE-400) to use as the transport lead-in trainer. I instructed in the T-1A 1994-97 and the cover page of the T-1A 'Dash One' aircraft manual had a drawing of a 1950s ATC TB-25N alongside a T-1A. Made me glad that someone in the USAF knew the history of the dual-track training program! |

Don't think so, I do not recognize that airplane from the Chandler Air Museum and the AZ CAF doesn't have one. The only one I recall being there was the P51D "Ho Hun" which I flew over 20 years ago when we visited there.

When radials are running there using oil, they do not load up, they just blow it out. On the Supper Connie's I was a flight crew member on each engine, R3350 Turbo compounded, Had a 42 Gal oil tank mounted behind the engine in the wing, plus two 67 gal auxiliary tanks, one in each wing root. The FE could transfer oil around as needed. On a typical 15 or 17 hr recon flight we would use around 50 or 60 gallons of oil. Radials do have a tendency to collect oil in the bottom cylinders while static, that's why, in old WW II footage you will see crew members hand proping, this allows the oil to exit the exhaust valves. The "Blues" flew the F8F-1 in the latter '40s and the two Bearcats here were owned by Bill and Corky Fornoff and they flew an exciting aerobatic demo with both planes. Sadly, the elder Fornoff's Bearcat shed a wing during a performance and crashed fatally. I don't know if anybody has seen one of these. I'm sure some may have, but I never knew they existed. It's on display at Lackland Airforce Base on their parade field. A very cool plane.

Confederate/Commemorative Air Force had a flyable P-82 back in the early '80s but it suffered a crash-landing and is only recently getting close to becoming airworthy again. A second P-82 was in an Ohio farmyard for decades until the owner recently died and the airplane went to someone for restoration.
Note that the Lackland P-82 has two left-side props that are probably fiberglass. The CAF needed props for their wrecked P-82 and may have gotten the USAF to let loose the ones on the Lackland airplane. I think I read that the CAF was trying to get the USAF to let them have the good props on the display airplane and replace them with fiberglass facsimiles. |

C&P Aviation located at the Anoka County Airport in Minnesota has an F82E that is in the final stages of restoration. I went over the airplane about 10 or so years ago as my brother was hoping to do the wiring. Theirs will be a flying version and not just static.
