Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
Neat Story. Grandpa was the original owner and bought the car to drag race. After a broken axle the car got parked and life went on. After he passed father and son put the car back on the road and brought it to the show.
http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w.../SLSGolf90.jpg White Nose was due to the special paint color when it was ordered. Was an issue with painting the nose, so they offered the options of a chrome, black or white nose. Since the car had a white gut, he chose a white nose. http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w.../SLSGolf91.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w.../SLSGolf85.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w.../SLSGolf86.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w.../SLSGolf84.jpg Lot of neat old stickers and equipment. They just took off the NMW tow tabs so the lower grille could be put back in place. http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w.../SLSGolf87.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w.../SLSGolf83.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w.../SLSGolf82.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w.../SLSGolf89.jpg |

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
Paul, Do you know if this car is from the Selinsgrove, PA area which is 1 hr N of Harrisburg on RT 11-15?
|
Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
Thats a great car and story but Im not buying the nose theory. I know of lots of special paint 69's and none of them had a differnt color nose. Id like to see the factory paperwork on that one. You could not get the chrome nose in 69 also. There is a burgundy ram iv with 5000 miles on it in selinsgrove..2 brothers own that car.

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
Who's that young thug that keeps getting in the way of the car ?

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
I wish that both events were held on different weekends or the same weekend together. That way I would be able to enjoy both. This "bickering" and spitefulness between the two groups is really a downer especially from car enthusiasts as dedicated and passionate as the people who put both events on.

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
I believe he is the grandson of the orig owner.

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
What is this special color paint on the RAIV?

First I did not start this thread for any other reason than to promote the GM Nationals @ Carlisle, our Vintage Certification Program & Solid Lifter Showroom. The reasons for the ACA decision to move is outlined in the link below. To me there are no groups... If the Camaro Nationals and GM Nationals were on different dates I would participate in both. I have a lot of good friends that went to the Camaro Nationals and others went to GM Nationals. If you read Karls explanation it appears he, Rick and their families just felt it was time due to the demands of the show and changes in priorities. When the ICC show ended Karl & Rick developed the ACA and a new Camaro Nationals. They have moved on and the MCC has stepped in and continued with it in Maryland. Both shows have moved forward and there is no need to speculate or turn this into a he said, she said. It's not an ideal situation but it is what it is. Like you I had heard many different stories, but the link below is the real story. Hopefully in the future one show will change their date. http://www.americancamaro.org/phpBB3...?f=2&t=463 |
Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle

Hi Guy, It was a natural progression that after 10 years of certifying exclusively the Camaro we have chosen to expand into other makes and models. When our program started participated in the MCACN 2009 in Chicago we did just that by including Chevelles, in fact members on this board participated (Grady’s 69 COPO, Phil W. 69 Black SS and Joes’s 70 LS6). At that time Chris White joined our team, and we have had great success since. Prior to the ACA/ Carlisle split I mentioned to Bud S.that we would like to start certifying other models as well, but the split came and the rest is history. The decision to stay at Carlisle came down to our desire to continue to expand into other makes and models. Also my thinking was that since there is no concours Chevelle judging (that I'm aware of) we would include a Chevelle restored class (Vintage Elite Certification). This will be a challenge since the Chevelle Nationals are the same weekend. But for those with restored and unrestored Chevelles our judging team includes both Jeff Dotterer and Chris White who have a wealth of knowledge on Chevelles and in fact had a Chevelle Diamond Class Concours judging program at a the nationals in years past. As I stated before if the shows were on different weekends I would find a way to participate in both. I had to make the same decision (because its on the same weekend) with the Bloomington Gold Survivor Show which I was on their Zenith board.. I have not participated in that show because I can't be at both shows (although one year I was at Carlisle Thur, Fri and left Sat night and flew to Il.for that Sunday show. There were no personal issues with the ACA, the Vintage Team appreciated the time we spent at the Camaro Nationals and all those associated with it especially, Bud, Karl and Rick. My goal is to be challenged from a judging standpoint, learn as much as I can, share our findings and have a great time with friends. I accomplished that this year. If you want to be treated to an outstanding muli-make and model muscle car show spend a weekend at the ww.MCACN.com and you will be blown away with an awesome display of the best muscle cars in the world. |
Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
I second that about the MCACN show. The people out there are great too. Worth the trip.

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
I wish everybody could work it out and the camaros and the chevelles could come back the same weekend everybody would benefit.i think it would help the swap meet out to.

I taked to the owner at the York show on Sat., and here is a picture of him and the car in 1969 showing the white nose. He told me that the special order paint is a 1966 color and they would not guarantee it to stick to the nose so his dad opted for the white since it had parchment int. I did see the window sticker from H & H Pontiac in Harrisburg, PA where the owner and car resides.

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
The color is 1966 Barrier Blue

And you really believed him???? Do you really think that barrier blue would not stick to the bumper but every other color know to man would?? I would be willing to bet that the car was nosed a little in the front and they could not match the color so they painted it white at his request. It was not original paint on the nose.BTW All 69 ram air cars came from the factory with Blacked out grilles. This car had silver grilles.Another red flag. |
Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
I don't know who this GTO Don is, or who he thinks he is, but I can GUARANTEE this car has NEVER been repainted as I have known the car it's whole life from the day my father picked it up at the dealership until now.

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
We know who he is. Right or wrong about this matter is one thing BUT this man knows his cars, especially Pontiacs pretty well. I don't believe he would shoot from the hip with any statements he would make on this subject without giving it alot of thought. Just seems like a real odd occurance with your bumper. Maybe a one of? Nice car!

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
Wolfeman - welcome to the site. There is little doubt that you have one honey of a car. We'd sure like you to hang out here and share some of your stories with this terrific RA IV car. We have lots of folks on this site who own and/or appreciate hi po Pontiacs. Is that you in the B&W photo above?

I feel the need to respond to your post and first off let me apologize if I have offended you but I can Guarentee you that as an owner of a bodyshop and having restored alot of GTO's That I feel I am Qualified to make a reasonable doubt about the paint on your Dads car. It does not make sense to me that 66 Barrier Blue does not stick to your rubber nose. I have had lots of 69 special paint cars and have never heard this argument in 30+ years of restoring these cars. As a painter this argument does not hold water. Now if you said that your father really wanted the car painted this way and made the right calls to get it done then I would say NEVER SAY NEVER. But you were just a child and Im sure you would not remember being in the showroom with the salesman hearing this statement. Dont you think its possible that your dad just thought it would look cool if the bumper was white??? It was 1969?? I looked that car over real good and let me say first that it is a beautiful car and your father took amazing care of it and I know you are very proud of it but in my opinion and its just my opinion that the bumper was originally Barrier Blue and it was painted white when new. He might have even told the saleman to paint it white before it came home To give it his personal touch. Again Im sorry if I have offended you but I had to be honest with my post. Take care of your great car. |

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
I'm glad to see Wilson (right?) and hopefully Spencer found their way over here. Please correct me if I got the names wrong and feel free to fill out your profile more.
How is the Verti-gate shifter working out on the street? |
Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
Thank you for clarifying your comments. I and my late father appreciate it. All I can tell you is that from back as long as I can remember that is what I was told, he was told by the dealership.

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
Yes, I finally made it to the site. There is alot of cool things here. I am getting more used to the v-gate shifter and may keep it in the car. Thanks for asking.

Re: GM Nationals @ Carlisle
2013 SLS on the horizon? I'd be interested in bringing my Camaro since BWAG dropped some news on me early Dec on "his" car. Pictures he found documents it as L89 with T400 when he ordered it. Tell me it's going to happen!
