Re: Someone is extremely mad
Yep, that sounds line sour grapes. Probably low-balled the owner(s) for years and then someone with a real offer got the car.

Re: Someone is extremely mad
This guy must have been ecstatic when he thought he was getting the car.
I have mixed feelings when it comes to 'stealing' deals, but 5K??? Tough luck, cheapskate. |

I looked at this car for years and spoke the woman many times. never interested in selling. Just down the road from Atco Dragway. [/ QUOTE ] Was it visible from the street? As in we *might* see it using Google's street view perhaps? |

For those local to the area, this is the street that comes in diagonally behind the old Wawa on Jackson Rd. |
Re: Someone is extremely mad
so the ~ street address for us wanting to google it would be ... ?
|
Re: Someone is extremely mad
no idea what the address is. Can't you search the street?

Re: Someone is extremely mad
I see a red car next to the house three houses from Ellwood ave?

Re: Someone is extremely mad
Actually it is (was) the car parked next to the 2nd house. It had a plastic tarp on it for a while covering it partially. The driver door was hanging open for around 5 years.

Re: Someone is extremely mad
There ought to be laws against crazy car stalkers like us.I feel creepy just looking at those pictures. Some guy leaves a foul rant on Craigslist because he got outbidded on the car he tried to buy and they guys who are calling him crazy are the ones posting satillite images of the car in question.

Re: Someone is extremely mad
Well, I feel symphathy for the guy and I hope he runs into the car someday with the owner that weasel'ed it out from underneath him. I have no use for people like that either and he'd better hope that I would never run into him or that car at a car show. For those that are calling him a cheapskate.....if someone told you to make an offer on a car that sat with it's door open for years, would you automatically jump all the way up to $20,000? I didn't think so. You'd offer $5,000 first. When somebody tells me something is sold, I back off. Shame on the Black family too for not honoring the original deal. They put a price on their "word" thus making it worthless.

Re: Someone is extremely mad
I think bottom line the owners of the car should have made a quick phone call to the guy offering 5k and give him a chance at it and the new price, although I have to admit if it were me and someone came up and offered me 15k more on the spot, it would be hard to say anything other than "take it away".

Re: Someone is extremely mad
The lesson is this: whenever you think you have a deal make darn sure you leave a deposit with the seller, no matter what the person says about holding it for you. Just tell them that you feel better about it and that they can do whatever they like with the deposit, hold it, cash it, deposit it, whatever, but at least you have more than someone's word they'll hold it for you.
To most laymen out there, they consider themselves contractually obligated to sell the car to someone if they have $$$ in hand, anything else and they feel they can change their mind. Sadly, these days, a person's word is worth as much as the paper it's written on. With very few exceptions, the days of a handshake deal are long gone. |
Re: Someone is extremely mad
Before I got too critical of the buyer and seller, I would want to hear both sides of the story. By reading the rant on Craig's list, I am not for sure if that is the type of individual that would post all of the facts, or the truth for that matter. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Someone is extremely mad
Absolutely. Probably was a guy who's been bugging the owner for years but never bothered to put up any real cash, and now is pissed because someone else did.

Re: Someone is extremely mad
We don't know any facts, did the guy say he would give $5k then not show up for a month, etc, did he leave a deposit, stay in contact w/seller,I doubt that he went to get a tow truck then the car was gone in 2 hours,I sell equip. for a living and get lied to everyday by people who say they will take it,then won,t give a deposit, won't answer their phone when called, won't return messages,if a buyer isn't serious people won,t wait,we need more facts.

You may have made handshake deals Steve, as others no doubt have, but ask any serious businessman and he'll tell you his first rule is "trust no one." Money talks and bull$hit walks. If you want to score a "yard find" '66 427 Corvette you'd better step-up fast with real cash in your hand. Otherwise a faster, more serious shark with cash in-hand (in his bloody teeth!) is gonna' make the deal. Handshake deals are okay but with strangers I'll bet you moved quickly so as to make sure the other guy honored his end of the handshake. |

[/ QUOTE ] I'll bet that one fact is that the Corvette's owner(s) knew what they had, otherwise it would have been snatched up a long time ago. Dozens, at least dozens, of hungry sharks probably tried to pry that Corvette away from its owners over the years and it kept on sitting there. The right money--for that very moment--finally showed up and away it went. |
