THE ONLY GOOD DEALS ARE SLAPPED TOGETHER JUNK *YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR !!!

Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
Rather than responding seperately in two posts I have combined these:
"The only Super-Chevy car show I've been to was the Pomona 1998. I'm guessing 1000 cars in attendance, and not one original paint survivor. I'm guessing there's even fewer 11 yrs later. Cars like this are the ones to own,and unfair to price it as a normal everyday car." I agree. However the "survivor" paint has to be nice enough to be "respectable" at the Saturday night parking lot show. Otherwise the owner soon tires of hearing "why don't you paint it." No point in paying "extra" for a survivor that you will end up painting soon after you buy it. "I have to chuckle here for a second. All the cars that I have been interested in buying sure haven't come down in price! I asked about this a few months back. Just where are all of these so called deals at? Any car that has been for sale on this site hasn't been a "steal", has it?" Right on. So many people get the idea that because of the low bid prices of unsold/reserve not met cars on the highly viseable Ebay, that these car are only worth the high bid. Many people simply use Ebay as a marketing tool and don't really expect that it will sell there. You can't blame potential buyers for trying to steal something in a down turn market. OTOH, unless you HAVE to sell there are no deal to be had. Most people that have rare desirable cars will hold them unless they get what they want for them. It still all boils down to supply and demand. If you WANT a certain car you either pay the price or see if you can build a clone to satisfy your need. Most are finding that in todays market they are better off buying a REAL car. The clone is only worth at best the sum total of its parts and in this market could not sell the done clone car for what they have in it, sometimes 1/2 of that. |

I spoke to the owner a few months before that car was sold, and I thought the price was a steal. I imagine the car was sold for even less than I could have bought it. That car dropped considerably in price from when the seller was first offering the car for sale. If my finances were a little better at the time, that car would be in my garage. awesome car...the pinnacle of 70 Camaros https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif |
Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
For me and maybe others, the automatic is a killer. Still a fantastic one of a kind car.
For those of you that have or know of a nice survivor, solid lifter car with low miles for 30-35k,just send me a pm. I'm not in the market, but for that price, I'll take them all. |

Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
The car finally rolled into my shop tonight. Here are some quick pics. This car is clean and original. Interior is excellent original except for the shifter? Cool car. I will get more pics and info soon. For some strange reason the car vin is 335632 and the vin on the block is 335633. Misstamp?

Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
The radius at the top of those rear stripes does not look right. No black on the rockers either. Repaint?

Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
as I stated earlier...it seems as though the stripe ends are taped and there is not the typical overspray on the stripes in the cowl area..and now with these photos, it seems the same in the trunk area..
does not seem original paint i.m.o. |
Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
I love the shot of the original POP and the fingerprints under the left edges of the tape. Run those prints and maybe you can find the dealership employee that originally sold it. (If he has a criminal record, of course). https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
Cool car! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
If you have the time, you may want to lift the driver and passenger side carpet to see if the body broadcast copy is under there. The original owner of my 68 told me he found his when he lifted the carpet to install the drive shaft loop. Mine was a Norwood car however. Great car, great find, good luck!

Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
Great find twin to my 02E LOS Z28. My serial number is about 4100 ahead of this car. One observation my car was not original paint when I bought it as the California sun beat it up. Was the truck lip painted with the stripe colour when a spoiler was factory installed?
|
Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
Looks like a nice car and a great score to be sure. The painted trunk lip was the first thing I noticed on this set of pics. Of the factory spoiler cars I have seen over the years, I cannot recall any with a painted lip like that. Added at the dealer before initial delivery, yes, but factory, none that I have seen.

Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
Forgot to say also my 02E Z has a engine build date of VO205MO . This seems to be about the same time duration as this car relative to the vehicles build date. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
Here are a few more pics from last night. I will probably not be able to do anything more with the car until tomorrow. We are going to get the car on the rack and drop the gas tank and get it drained and cleaned out along with the other fluids to start getting the car ready to run. We decided to get the car running because the way it sits now it would have to be sold as a project car and that would have a negative impact on the value as opposed to a running and driving car. Getting it running will be easy and cost very little. If you followed the thread on my 69 T/A you will see this car is going to be a piece of cake comparatively. I will go through the car and photograph and document all numbers to get it ready for sale. I will post more pics as I take them.
Thanks for following along. Richie Here is a tag I found under the passenger seat. http://www.carbuffs.com/camaroz27.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/camaroz28.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/camaroz29.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/camaroz30.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/camaroz31.jpg |
Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
BT Rearend is special, 3.55 gears instead of the standard 3.73.
Engine VIN might be misstamp or mixing the engines between the next car on the line, probably misstamp. Jan |
Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
Don't care wether a repaint or not- SOLID -ORIGINAL- ALL PAPERWORK-unmolested -GARAGE FIND !!!! 30-35 your nuts!

Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
Very nice car.Is this car consider a born with motor car ?
|
Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
I would have thought that if the engine was mis-stamped, that the POP would have shown the incorrect mis-stamp not what should have been correctly stamped on the engine? They pulled the actual numbers off of the car for the POP, didn't they? Ed

Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
I think that's the original motor.
But I don't think that seat tag goes with this car. This car has standard belts from what I see. ZK3 is deluxe belts. |

I am sure it is the original motor. I seem to attract odd block stampings. Who else could come up with a 1 owner unmolested 69 T/A with a Camaro vin on the block. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif BTW I grew up in Ypsilanti and still have family and friends all over there. |

Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
We cleaned up the car some today and it does appear to be a repaint. Looks like old lacquer with some shrinkage but I still can't find tape lines. Still very solid and straight. A few bubbles around the rear window. We are going to start getting it ready to run tomorrow. I will get undercarriage photos then. Sharp car regardless.

Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
Finally had a chance to work on the car today. Oil was changed and engine was primed and turns over fine. Carb will be getting new gaskets tomorrow. The carburetor appears to be a 1974 service replacement.
The undercarriage is typical California rust free. The transmission has the same misstamp as the block. The rearend has a BT stamp. The spare has the correct DF stamp but the other wheels have an FW stamp and appear to be 15x7. I guess someone wanted a little wider tread. http://www.carbuffs.com/camaroz40.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/camaroz41.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/camaroz42.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/camaroz43.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/camaroz44.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/camaroz45.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/camaroz46.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/camaroz47.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/camaroz48.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/camaroz49.jpg |

My friend Rick got the engine prepped to run yesterday. It fired right up and runs great. We may have it on the road tomorrow, I will post some pics.

Re: 1968 Z/28 garage find
Funny how the VIN misstamp of "33" matches the license plates. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif
