Re: What was your 1st car?
Mine was a 1971 Chevelle, antique white with a black gut and black vinyl roof. Had a 307 with the air cleaner lid turned over to sound "tough." LOL! Bought it back in 1990 off the original owner with only 47,000 on it. Best thing is that I still have the car sitting in the garage. Only thing is now it's 1995 Corvette bright white with a black gut and black vinyl roof. Oh and it's gotta a 350 now too. otherwise, the car is still pretty much the same way I bought it. I've always heard stories from the older guys asaying they "wish they had their first cars again." Well, I did everything I could to be able to say that I still do.

Re: What was your 1st car?
I went thru 3 cars in my senior year in H.S. ... The first was a 65 triple black 442, which was owned by a local gas station owner. I paid $800.00 for it. Had a blast in that car for about 4 months. Then some kid with more money than brains offered me twice what I paid for it, so.....
I took the profits from the 442, and bought a real nice used red 68 SS-396/350 h.p. Chevelle. Same thing happened to the Chevelle after a few months of my pounding that thing whenever the time was right. Some guy REALLY wanted it, and paid me way more than it was worth. By then I had enough cash for my dream 67 white Vette coupe. Small block, blue interior. Actually I bought the Vette from a gas station owner too. I drove the Vette, the last half of senior year. Then came the wild summer after H.S. graduation. One hot Sunday afternoon, I was cruising along a country road in my Vette, with my girl friend, and didn't see the 69 GTO slam his brakes on in front of me, to make a turn. The GTO was jacked up in the back. I slammed into his undercarriage, and squashed the Vette, in a cloud of dust, up to the windshield. No one was hurt, but what a mess of tiny pieces of shredded fiberglass, mixed in with antifreeze. This was to be my 1st experience restoring a car. No frame or engine damage, because the GTO sat so high, but I learned at an early age, how to do fiberglass work, and paint. It took about 6 months, but it looked perfect when it was done. Luckily, I haven't wrecked a car since. Anyway, those were my first 3 cars. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif All hot rods! |
Re: What was your 1st car?
Mine was a 61 Impala Bubbletop. Actually it belonged to my bride anfd I sort of "took it over". You know dual quads, raised the hood in the back, headers etc.

My first car in 1976 was a 1971 Dodge Charger R/T 440.
My dad would not lend me the extra $$$ to buy a 1967 Camaro SS 427 / 4 speed (street race car)so this was all I could afford. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_lsyt_wQ2aw...llpaper_01.jpg The ad said 71 charger - custom carburator - excellent condition - $1400 firm. The custom carb turned out to be a chrome air cleaner. I went and looked at it & told the guy I would take real good care of it but all I have is $1100. He liked me & said OK. What a great car. 13.99 at the track just like I bought it & I drove it everywhere/everyday. |

Well my second muscle car was a 1969 RS/Z28 hugger orange black stripes and vinyl top. I purchased the car in 1979/80 in Franklinville, NJ. All was going well on my way home to a suburb of Philly until I decided to get on it in my home town. Well I attracted attention, unfortunately I was pulled over and given several summons (noise , no registration excessive speed) geez give a kid a break. I was a block away from the tag store for registration. I kept the car until the spring of 1983, when I was married and needed funds to buy our first home.
Stay tuned...... https://www.yenko.net/attachments/426...choguepass.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/426851-Broomall.jpg |
Re: What was your 1st car?
1976 Datsun B210. More rust than metal. Bought it from my uncle for $100. Would backfire every time you wound it out a bit. Oh, the seat would also spontaneously recline!! That was fun.... got to learn about engine work with hat one... thank you Chiltons!!
2nd car.... 1970 Camaro SS Silver black soft top 4 speed... with the most powerful 305 on earth... no idea what that engine was but it went like a bat out of hell!! That sucker would do the best burnouts going a bit sideways down the road. Loved it!! 2nd engine in the car LT1.... nice..... Sold it in 90... regret it to this day... the guy I sold it to sold it to a guy in Sweden.... never see that one again... |
Re: What was your 1st car?
I love this thread since it brings back the memories. My first car was a 1977 Camaro LT, gold metalic exterior with tan cloth interior and auto. Like some others I bought it from an auto mechanic. Wrecked the car to the point of being close to totaled and Dad made the insurance company total it to teach me a lesson. Saw the car later repaired and another teenager driving it and he eventually really killed it by running into the back of a semi-trailer.
Next 2 cars were 1974 Nova Customs, 2 doors with 350 an automatics. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Todd |

Re: What was your 1st car?
Well in my last post I said stay tuned.... well after 24 years of persistence my second and favorite muscle car is coming home. I received a call on 10/14 of this year a day before my mother passed stating the owner was finally prepared to sell. It certainly was a bitter sweet moment, but the great pumkin is on her way home. She still has her orig drive train and loaded with options. Sammy will be proud .. the car will be day 2 just like the way I originally had her. Its been a long journey and I'm glad she is home. Stay tuned for the journey ahead.

Re: What was your 1st car?
Mike, welcome aboard. Pretty neet for a first car (at least the guys here all think so. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif)
Nick, A '61 bubble with dual quads? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif I like! Wilma, New Yawk ain't that far from Illernoiz so watch it! And to set the record straight, I bought the car from Fred Flintstone. Hard to really say which was my first car. I drove a '53 Chevy for a while, then a '55 Olds Super 88; both while in High School and both titled to my Dad. The first car I bought was the '57 BelAir that's still in the garage. Good Lord, I've had that car 45 years! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif |

Re: What was your 1st car?
My first car was a Nova also...a brand new Hugger orange 70, 307, floor mounted 3 speed, and rally wheels.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...rd/70Nova4.jpg Picture was taken by my dad just after I drove it home from the dealership; note the Monroney sticker still in the rear quarter window. Rally wheels lasted about 2 weeks, replaced by Keystone mags that looked similar to Torq-Thrusts only with darker spokes. OEM exhaust lasted about another 2 weeks, replaced by a set of duals with glasspacks from Midas. Sold the car after 5 months because it wasn't fast enough. Bought an R4 red 69 Dart Swinger 340 with a 4 speed and 3.55 Sure-Grip...had loads of fun with that car! |
