I am curious about documentation? Does any exist or any other history about the car that goes back to the second owner? Rick can you or someone give me some background/history on the car? How the Harell cars were converted, where converted, where sold? Thanks [/ QUOTE ] Les, give me a call and I can go over all of the information I have if you are an interested buyer. Suffice to say, I have more than enough information that the car was the real deal from the original 1973 for sale add, the previous owners, copies of Minnesota Dragways stating this car and it's then current owner, affidavits from a Dick Harrell conversion mechanic, etc, etc to convince me beyond a shadow of a doubt that this car was the real deal before a deal was struck with the then (2003) owner. For what it is worth, Dennis Hartweg also gave his blessings on the car at that time. This car was sold new out of Van Chevrolet and converted at the Kansas City performance center. Call me if interested and I will go over all of it with you. Rick |
Re: 1970 Dick Harrell 454 Camaro Survivor for Sale
The wheels in the last picture are Superior Mags. Dick Harrell was in fact a Superior Distibutor but these were not originally installed on this car. The second owner installed them when he could not get traction from the original tires and Stripper Wheels. He is the one that we located the wheels and tires in his warehouse as well as some photos from back around 1972. In the photos are this Dick Harrell car, another 1970 Z28 and a Daytona Yellow, black stripe, black vinyl top Yenko Camaro, all owned by him at the time. I think Chad also may have received some photos of this car in the last owners driveway doing a "fake" wheel stand from around 1973-74 when it was last registered.

Re: 1970 Dick Harrell 454 Camaro Survivor for Sale
That car IMO doesn't look to tough to document. When they are frame offed is when it gets scary to me. Those decals, stickers, pin striping etc. look pretty old to me. Knowing most of the owners helps alot too. I can't believe anybody would really try to fake or recreate a Harrell car 37-38 years ago for the heck of it. Don't think that many cared where it came from that far back. Only cared about how fast it was! The patina to me says it all! A nice time capsule.

Re: 1970 Dick Harrell 454 Camaro Survivor for Sale
Would Valerie Harrell be able to document this with original Dealer paperwork? Has anyone tried that route yet? From another post here, it seems she has some original stuff for some of the Harrell cars.
|
Re: 1970 Dick Harrell 454 Camaro Survivor for Sale
I took tons of reference pics of the car when Paul had it at Vettefest. Tons of patina indeed. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Re: 1970 Dick Harrell 454 Camaro Survivor for Sale
Les,The car came with photos dated 1973 as Rick stated and the car looks the same today as it did then,a true time capsule. The owner I purchased the car from had a fiberglass liftoff hood but tied to the wall under a blanket was the original hood in original paint with the hood hinges in mint condition wrapped up with it.
Many people have seen this car and would swear just by looking at it it was the real deal. I had contacted a few previous owners and rick talked to a few and they all wondered what happened to the car but nobody followed up as the owner still lived in the same house and the car was in the garage in his backyard. I had even spoke with cecile vantyle, the owner of Van Chevrolet, but at his age and owning over 80 dealerships it was hard for him to remember much about the muscle car era of the 60's and 70's,but said he would try to put me in touch with his service advisor that worked at that dealership at that time but it never did happen. The only person we could never find was the original owner and never figured out how it got from Van Chevrolet to Bufallo Minnesota. |
Re: 1970 Dick Harrell 454 Camaro Survivor for Sale
As I understand it, from what I've read over the past couple years, the question isn't whether the car is legit; the question is whether anyone wants to put up with the troubles that come along with owning a Dick Harrell car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif

Re: 1970 Dick Harrell 454 Camaro Survivor for Sale
That car needs an owner that really wants to keep it and enjoy what it is. If you look long and hard enough I bet something will turn up about its racing says and its street racing folklore. A survivor car!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

[/ QUOTE ] I initially disclosed this car to Dennis Hartweg when it was originally located and with what he knew at the time gave me a very good feeling as to it's authenticity. I also contacted Valerie but at that time she could not help. I do not know if anyway has talked to her since then but that might be worth checking out if she were willing. |

Re: 1970 Dick Harrell 454 Camaro Survivor for Sale
There are no issues with regard to the Harrell name on this car as Dick Harrell built it and the family has acknowledged that. I even received a very nice note from Dale Pulde about the car when he referred it to a friend of his who may have been interested in purchasing it. There is no dispute with the family about the authenticity of this car. Thank you.

Re: 1970 Dick Harrell 454 Camaro Survivor for Sale
I have the photos from 1973 showing a guy with long hair at the wheel and the front end off the ground. Looks like he is doing a launch in a parking lot or something. Hard to believe it is a wheel stand because the front end is quite high for a launch of a street car, but maybe with 4.88's and slicks? The car has also been discussed on the Dick Harrell website forum after I listed it for sale. Valerie, Dale and others that know the car there all made very favorable comments and all agreed it is a real car. The car is a true, unmolested survivor. I own a handful of cars and would love to keep this but have been putting money into my business lately and have made some other investments, so after 3 years of owning this legend, I am sad to see it moving it, hopefully to another great collector or enthusiast. The reaction that this car brings at shows among people that know who Dick Harrell was is astounding! The economy will recover and prices will rise again, but right now at this price, the car is a steal. I am also very thankful for the connections/friendships I have made through owning this car with gentleman such as Rick Nelson and others. Rick convinced me to trailer this car 36 hours straight from Seattle to Chicago last year!

Re: 1970 Dick Harrell 454 Camaro Survivor for Sale
I don't think there has ever been any question in regards to it being real or not. I have no doubt it is probably the best Harrell survivor out there. The issue seems to be about when it is time to sell the car. My understanding is Howie or Mecum have been threatened with legal action if Howie tries to sell his car with the Harrell name on it. How can Howie be threatened and not this car or any other Harrell car ? If I had a Harrell car and was threatened like I believe Howie is, I think I would be taking legal action for someone interfering with my sale. Is there a question of Howie's car being a real Harrell car ?

Re: 1970 Dick Harrell 454 Camaro Survivor for Sale
I was not in an any way doubting its authenticity but was asking about its provenance in regard to placing a value on it in this economy. And yes the Harrell family's present position does bring another set of considerations as to whether a prospective buyer is also getting a lawsuit or at a minimum a headache to go along with the car?

Re: 1970 Dick Harrell 454 Camaro Survivor for Sale
Congratulations Tony on definitely one of the coolest 2nd Gen Camaros in the World. Even though I could not afford it due to other prior commitments, I came so so close to buying this car a few months ago right after I sold my collection. If it was an RS, it would definitely be in my garage. I really think that this car was a steal at that price and it will definitely increase in value in short time.....
Good Luck with it and I am glad it has a great home !!! Max |
