Re: Winter Granny Project..
Probably the red on the spare tire hook is a coating of some sort so metal to metal would not rust or maybe a squeek deadener.

Oh, those beautiful floors https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif https://www.yenko.net/attachments/384826-tn_IMG_0366.jpg [/ QUOTE ] This a great shot of the "GREEN" ookumpucky that was used @ Willow Run to seal the floor plugs, very different from the Camaro's, kind of spongy too. Tom, very neat car, and I hijacked a couple of you shots https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif Thanks Mike https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

Re: Winter Granny Project..
The southern Illinois deviation to the word is 'ickempucky'. My Dad used that term to describe some kind of substance they used at the implement dealer where he worked when I was a little punk (like Frankie). It was a cross between a lubricant and adhesive. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif I don't recall what it was used for but my Mother hated the stuff. Stunk to high heaven and was impossible to get out of clothes.

The only real survivor around here is ME....never been re-finished...not even a touchup https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif
This car lasted 40 years and it will now go another 40 with some fresh paint and detailing. This will be a great grocery getter or platfrom for a V8 clone...I may just drive it this summer to save on gas https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif |

Re: Winter Granny Project..
Now that I a Numbers Guy.....I can get involved....LOL....Here a shot of the rear seat pan in my Gold 70.......No overspray like the green car, just Primer and glue.......Just for future reference........when I bought the new Headliner for the car, I just threw it on the floor in the seat riser area......when the Interior guy came over to Install it, the Red adhesive you see in the pic melted thru the Plastic bag "And" the new Headliner......Just a warning.....that stuff is "Potent"

Re: Winter Granny Project..
This is the back seat area of my 19,000 mile 68 Nova. I had to take half the car apart to get the rear driver side window back up.... My 5 yr old Nephew decided he wanted some air.... Don't roll down the quarter windows on Novas, no good can come from it.... I didn't lift the padding much to peek under but probably should have... The little white fuzzy stuff is compliments of Mr. mouse...

You can see by those photos the 40 years of gease and grime that was there...we sprayed the bottom with de-greser and then used a pressure washer hooked to hot water. It really helped to get things cleaned up.I bought one of those throw away painters suits...things get a little messy when the grease and water start flying https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif
Noticed this inspection paint and date stamp on the driver's side front frame...orange paint with a 4-08-69 date stamped upside down. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/387388-tn_IMG_0397.jpg |

Here are some "after" shots...since this car had HD undercating from the selling dealer we decided to just e-spray some where needed and finish with a nice coat of chassis black paint. It's not a concours job but, it certainly makes the underside look clean and neat. I will probably do a little more detailing to touch up any little things we missed.

Did some more work tonite...stripped her right down, so I can paint the motor and frame. Boy some of the stuff was very brittle...the temp sending unit fell apart in my hand. PCV hose was so dry rotted it crumbled into little pieces...wire harness clips, same thing..snap!! Overall the stuff is pretty solid...couple of items to repair and refurbish, like the carb (see resto thread). I am going to try the Eastwood Chevy orange engine paint with a brush...we also used a product from SEM called "rustshield"...this stuff is dyanmite, Jason Hale hooked me up with it. We painted the inner fenders, under the hood, back of fenders...and they look beautiful. I'm going to brush it on the sub-frame and paint some other hardware for the car. Here are a couple of pics of the engine bay...just a little more prep and then some paint.
