Re: Need some Critique on my 69
The Delco Morane stamping on the power boosters I have seen are all over the board. From very faint stampings to none at all. I have also seen the DM logo in the 2 o'clock position on unmolested low mile cars. While, not typical, they are made that way. Just like the differences in font size in the date and application code. Just to many variables during the model year to say it could only be one way. Also the pinch clamps on the PCV valve should have squared off ends. The kind that rip your finger's open square. Later style pinch clamps used a rounded end. Much more finger friendly..BKH https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Need some Critique on my 69
I have seen the larger style upper control arm shafts with the nut on the A bodies before...
|
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
I have never seen any large nut shafts on any survivors or cars that I've known going back almost 40 years. Those large nut shafts were swapped out many times in the 1970s for added front end alignment adjustments.
Now that these cars are 40 years old, it's almost impossible to document one unless it's an original owner car or two owner car. Jerry |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
I have those large nuts on my '69 SS 396 Chevelle--(I'm the original owner) natural metal color........
|
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Joe,
I was an original SS396 Chevelle owner until 1993. Yours would be the first that I know of.........what plant was it built? Jerry |

Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Mine was a Baltimore car. I'll have to check the parts books and assm manual to see what is called out. Hard to believe that this would be a plant variation. All Kansas City cars that I've seen are like the Balto cars. All Camaros built at both assm plants are the same with large washers and 5/16 bolts.

Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Bruce,
A one owner Motion SS Chevelle with docs. Wow! Not many around like this I'm sure. Joe, did you ever race this car? I grew up 15 minutes away from Motion in N. Massapequa. Used to go over there when I was just barely a teenager. It was a happening place back then. Jerry |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Unless Motion swapped them out when front spring lifts were put in............
|
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
FWIW..My 69, 06D, Bal built, survivor type car has the washer and bolt like the picture Rich posted.

Here's the mutt that I bought. L89, M22, chambered 4.10 rear, etc.
The Nova in the photo belonged to a buddy of mine. Had a .060" 427 that ran 11.00s on 8" tires. Was a very fast street racer! Jerry |

Here's another shot at Capital Raceway, early 1970s. Best the car ever went with 7" tires and 4.88s was in the 12.30s. Very heavy car.
The aluminum heads put the car in B/Stock instead of C/Stock which hurt the car in ET. Meant I had to run with the 375 hp Camaros. Jerry |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Nice launch!

Here's another nice shot. My work shop in the early 1970's........parent's driveway. I still have that Ausco floor jack. Bought it in 1970 and still with me today and works better than all the new jacks that I own!
Don't make 'em like that anymore. Just noticed that my parents 1966 Plymouth SW is in the back ground. I have the WS to that gem too. Jerry |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Ditto on the launch https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif photos--------I can't tell what color the Chevelle is..
|
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Great photos Jerry. Thanks!
|
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Joe,
Fathom green like just about every other 69 Chevelle. Very popular back then. Jerry |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Sam,
I have hundreds of photos from 1970 on with racing scrap books. I scanned in many of the photos this past year. I'll have to find more to post. Never knew that many of my buddies took so many pictures. The new D/Stock 67 Z28 race car that I just finished was at Capital every week back then. In those days, no one knew what a 67 Z28 was. Ray Fairall, the original owner and I became good friends back then and are still friends today. I would get so frustrated that his little 302 could run with my big block Chevelle in C/Stock! Those were the days. Jerry |

Here's another gem from the early 1970's. Tow car before my designated '69 Z28 tow car that I bought in 1972.......my girl friend's 67 Mustang fastback. Can't believe it was safe to pull that big Chevelle with a 289 Mustang.

Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Wow Jerry...some cool pics! Ya gotta love the tow tabs sticking out of the front of your Chevelle.
As far as Joe's Chevelle...what can I say but it was https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif cool! Joe's a great guy as well https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Please keep the pictures coming...I LOVE this stuff! If I had a bit more time...I'd take you up on the picture posting help. Are the pics in slides...or are they actual pictures? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif If they are pictures...I might be able to help you out. |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Yep,--Great photos--------keep'em comin'...

Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Bruce,
I have to crop down my photos that I've scanned because they are too big......about 200KB. Once I learn how to shrink them, I can post a lot of stuff that I have. Ken Tibor helped me post the great shot of Old Reliable at the Vegas race in 2005. I am going to send him all of the drag photos that I have from T. Bishop from the mid 60's as he's agreed to scan and post on this site. Wish I knew you guys were into the fun part of the hobby (drag racing) years ago. I would have spent more time here. Happy New Year, Jerry |

Here's another but I had to crop it quite a bit so I could post. I don't ever remember looking that young! March 1973.

Found an engine bay shot, early 1970's. You can tell that I didn't leave it bone stock for long. Nice red heater hose??? What was I thinking?
I think the smog eq lasted about a month before it was ditched. Jerry |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Jerry,
Great pics, can't wait to see more.Would like to see a picture of your 69Z towing the Chevelle. |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
I know that car! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
Jerry, I'll have to dig up my Super Chevy Maple Grove pics I took in the 80's of your Chevelle. |

My apologies to you Brad for not noticing earlier. Jerry, if you want to post exterior pics of your Chevelle and whatever else, please start a new thread and keep this one on track. -JB |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Joe,
Sorry about that. Somehow we got side tracked talking about the upper control arm shafts. Jerry |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Sorry no new pictures today I was lazy, get some tomorrow.
|
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Brad,
Were you able to find an oil cap? Jerry |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Forgot, I have them at my shop because we do so many big block engine rebuilds. Let me know if you can't find one.
Also, do you have the nice Crane reproduction valve covers? They are $$$ but right on the money. Only thing you have to do on the 69 Crane covers is install the rubberizing material on the lower clip. Jerry |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
I found an oil cap. I know the crane valve covers are big $$ how much are they now days?
I made my temp sensor clip for the valve cover. I had to go cheap some place. LOL Now to get up off my lazy arse and take some new pictures. |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Year One had a special running on those covers. 20% off, put them in the $300+ range. You still need to rubber dip the clip. That liquid rubber is available at Home Depot. Did you do that on the clip that you have on the current valve covers?
Good luck, Jerry |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Jerry,
Whose valve cover gaskets are you using for those valve covers? |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Mr. Gasket #177, paint them silver and you're good to go.
Jerry |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
I have some of the liquid rubber I can do it with.
Well I was going to take some pictures but my batteries are dead and now charging up. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif |
Re: Need some Critique on my 69
Any one have a picture of the dipped clip on the valve cover with it attached?
