Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
When you have a long post...try typing it in Microsoft Word first...then copying and pasting it into the post area here.
It will save a lot of time (and frustration). Ask me how I know! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |
Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
Brian,
We pretty much know that there were 10 CG Deuces built, and we know where 9 of them went originally. Deuces were occasionally dealer traded, but that is very hard to document. I recall our conversation at the Nova Nationals in Belterra, IN and that the dealer was Conner - Indiana. It's cool to see/hear that these cars were dealer traded, especially since we normally hear that they were distressed merchandise after Aug. '70! Yenko was putting out Bulletins to the dealers in the network notifying everyone of other dealers with excess inventory, so that was one way that far-away dealers could locate & transfer some of these SportsCars. Cool pic, love those whitewalls! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |

Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
I think the hood tach is obscured by the window divider. There is a slight trangular bright spot on top of the hood just to the left of that divider...
Is that a gold / black 69 Camaro parked right next to the Nova? |
Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
Not to highjack this thread but does anyone know of a red/white 70 deuce that was sold out of C&O Chevrolet in Charelston or Beckley WV.The reason I`am asking is my cousin was telling about his uncle on his dads side of the family that had bought this nova new in 70 and lived in WV and kept the car under a car port for many years and hardley ever drove the deuce and then sold the car and was supposedley rolled over after the new owners bought the car.I check the vin list but did not see the dealer listed.
|
Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
With dealer trades, it's not unusual to find deuces at dealers that they weren't sent to.
To the best of my knowledge, there have not been any verifiable red/wht striped deuces found. Mine was a guess, and personal preference. Mr. Ed believed that Engler's was that combo, but there seems to be evidence that he was incorrect. The one in the Ernst collection was done that was as Cliff liked that combo. I think there could have been some, just no original owner, or docs to prove it that I know of. I believe that the only color proven to go both ways is Citrus green. Good luck with the hunt. If this guy was the original owner, see if he has any old pics, and if he has any old registrations with the vin on them. That would help a bunch. |
Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
The original owner passed about 8 years ago.I will ask my cousin to see if his aunt has some pictures from new or any paper work.My cousin told me his uncle payed around $4200 or $4300 for the car.Ray

Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
He's right in the ball park on the price. Usual window sticker price was around 4600.00
|
Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
Ken, I would not trust Mr. Ed's memory. I have found some stuff he told me to be wrong, then found other neat stuff that he all together forgot about. The "evidence" that you mentioned about Englers Deuce being actually red/black stripes, was that the guy I told you about a few years ago that saw the photo of my Deuce as the screen saver on my computer? This was when I worked at Mr. Ed's dealership. He then told me about one "he had just like it" that he bought new at Fencl Tufo from Mr. Ed. I remember believing him when he told me the story. At that time he said it was red/black stripes.

Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
How far did this owner live from Portsmouth, OH? There was a dealer there that sold a handful of Deuces. There were also some sYc network dealers in WV.

Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
anybody know a a yellow deuce that was in greensburg pa or uniontown,i knew a guy in the late 80s who picked one up and he did locate some original parts for it. just wondered what happened to it
|
Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
If you're speaking of the Sunflower Yellow "Hooper" Deuce, it's last know whereabouts was a wooded backyard in Uniontown. It did have it's original drivetrain, but there wasn't much left at all of the body shell/suspension components. It was on ebay at least once...and was discussed here at length. Maybe someone can find the old thread and link it here.
Was the Deuce you were thinking of definitely bright Sunflower Yellow, or could it have been a Gobi Beige car that is a sort of pale margarine yellow? |
Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
IT WAS YELLOW AND THE GUYS LAST NAME WAS HOOPER, SO I GUESS IT IS THE SAME ONE,DOES HE STILL OWN IT?
|
Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
It actually sold on ebay that time if I remember correctly, until the guy who bought it set someone down to eyeball it and nixed the deal. Perhaps the straw hanging outta the bottom that he bedded his dog house with did it.
He will tell you, ask Marlin, that he has guns. Not a real friendly dude. Last I heard it had been moved outta sight somewhere. He ain't gonna make a good Walmart greeter. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif |
Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
i remember the body was rough but he did have nos sheetmetal,i think the motor and the rest of the drivetrain were in other vehicles around town, been years since i have talked to mr hooper but he was a good guy back then,

Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
It's a long story, been there, saw it, read the note on the window, it wasn't a pretty sight - I think it would have torn in half if someone tried to drag it too far. It's gone from the side yard now, not sure where it went. When I saw it, there was no drivetrain, but the original block and rear was claimed to be stashed somewhere. It had a rough life.
|
Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
Marlin, Is there any record of a sunflower yellow deuce bought out of Canonsburg by a Tom or Lee Miller from Creekside area? It would have been after we bought ours. Have always wondered what happened to that deuce.

sorry, yes i meant mr hooper,he had a shop in greensburg pa by the name of diamond autobody until the early 90s
|
Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
I don't remember that, but my memory could be better. He did have some interesting stories about the deuce. The story I got,(if I remember correctly) was that one of the owners, (seemed like the 1st) bought the car and street raced it. There was a hemi car in the area that he just couldn't beat, so that's when the LT/1 came out, and a crate 454 went in. He still couldn't beat the hemi. Sounds like it went down hill in the following years, and ended up being a storage shed for straw for his dog.

Have always wondered what happened to that deuce. Linda [/ QUOTE ] Well, there is/was only one SunYellow Deuce sold out of Yenko that we know of - and it's the 'Hooper' Deuce. We don't know who bought it new, so it could have been the one in your area. However, a few miles away from you is a very long owned 'light yellow' (aka, gobi beige) Deuce that was probably sold after Earl bought the blue one (not the Spangler Deuce). This one was a 4speed with p/s, and was initially a demo car - it replaced the silver demo car that Spencer totalled into the bridge abuttment. So, perhaps it was a light yellow version? |
Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
Marlin, any record of how many gobi beige cars sold out of Canonsburg?
|
Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
Nope! Without page 2, and very few a/t gobi's found it is very difficult to even speculate. The one thing I would say is that I don't believe it was a common color ordered by network dealers, so Yenko does seem to have had a few more gobi's than other colors - but that's pure speculation. Gobi proved a tough color to sell sometimes, ( say 'sometimes' bec/ my original owner passed over an FG deuce for the beige!), some dealers called it 'calves shitt brown' https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif
Trivia ?: Anyone wanna guess which dealer came up with that moniker? |

Stocker Chevrolet is correct!

Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
Citrus green, sold new at music-carter chevrolet, in prestonsburg, ky. I know the man who bought the car new and also the present owner. I called and requested ser#. Should know in a couple of days and I will post it soon as I get a call back. Music-Carter is not listed in the reg. Just curious if it is one of the cars with the dealer not listed. Robert H.
|
Re: Missing Yenko Deuce?
Interesting, never even heard of Music-Carter Chev. I think there is one CG deuce without a known dealer from the Yenko records, so it could be that one. Or, it was a dealer transfer from a known participating dealer. I know that Yenko was floating his 'Bulletins' throughout his dealer network in '71+ alerting everyone about existing SuperCar inventory at other dealers. So, if Music-Carter came on board later for Stinger Vegas they very well may have received word of Deuce inventory at other dealers - and processed a dealer trxfr.
Keep diggin! |
