Re: F.A.S.T. Racing.
As the car count increases, thus less time for tech, I think you are right, $$ and one's conscience (in regards to the rules) will dictate the future of the event.
I for one think they ought to go back to square one, where the cars need to be the way they would have come from the factory. IMO, does not get any more simple then that. |

This may work better....

Re: F.A.S.T. Racing.
Thanks Sam. I actually qualified 3rd that day with that pass. It was my best attempt yet, at getting an E-body to hook up on bias ply tires with a 700 hp hemi. I was running 18psi in the rear tires and 50 psi up front.

Re: F.A.S.T. Racing.
Wow Steve ,11;00 got the hemi really cranking ;oh so close to a 10 second run.if this economy gets straightened out ,I should be able to make some of the events next year in the 68 396 nova.Chris teed

Re: F.A.S.T. Racing.
I watched the 74 455 trans am run yesterday at steele ala.
Very nice car. I think he was running mid to high 12s. I think a stick shift class should be added if the car count is high enough. Seems like the autos have a great big advantage. |

Re: F.A.S.T. Racing.
I spoke with him and we talked about the change he made from stick to automatic and the dyno numbers he put down saturday. Very nice guy and a very nice car.

Re: F.A.S.T. Racing.
I would love to put a car together for this class. Nothing better than seeing two old musclecars sitting at the tree.

Re: F.A.S.T. Racing.
Wow Rob, I didn't realize you were 1-1/2 mph faster than Pete. Was that your best mph?
Chris, roll that Nova out next year, it's been too long! |

Wow Rob, I didn't realize you were 1-1/2 mph faster than Pete. Was that your best mph? [/ QUOTE ] Umm, don't think so? I had a few over 118 that weekend...you'd think the scenario would be *opposite* wouldn't you? I can't figure it out, as Pete & I have talked about it for years...I know he's had some valvetrain issues that sucked some MPH from his car, that he's gotten back...but he'll out 60' me EVERY TIME, and I'll usually pick it up out the backdoor...I think his fewer pounds over the nose & softer bottom end power (camshaft) helps him out of the gate, and being quicker he effectively has less time to build mph, but...https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: F.A.S.T. Racing.
Still a little confusing for me, especially when you figure the ZL1 has got 850 cfm to your 780 cfm.
|
Re: F.A.S.T. Racing.
Maybe the mph differences are due to the rear gears.....
|
Re: F.A.S.T. Racing.
My $.02, if I may
I think Rob pretty much nailed it...I wouldn't be at all surprised to see that the L72 cam works better upstairs than the ZL1 cam does when running unported iron exhaust manifolds. On the other hand, the bigger ZL1 stick probably softens up the bottom enough to make the car considerably easier to launch, and when you consider the weight savings of the beercan engine, that would explain why it 60's well. A side-by-side comparison of the 2 dyno sheets would be quite interesting. Just some random thoughts... Eric |
Re: F.A.S.T. Racing.
Manifolds and exhaust systems being equal, maybe the 780 just works better with this type of 'restriction'.

Re: F.A.S.T. Racing.
Is there a F.A.S.T. race at E town NJ this weekend ??
|
Re: F.A.S.T. Racing.
No...there will probably be some cars that run in the F.A.S.T. series there, but I don't believe it's a sanctioned event...

It's called "Stock Appearing Drags" and it will be hapening November 8th at Englishtown. http://www.stockappearingdrags.com/info.html A different group than F.A.S.T., but much the same program, with some of the same cars. |
Re: F.A.S.T. Racing.
