Re: COPO on Ebay
HI they say 75 copo camaros came to canada
|
Re: COPO on Ebay
I doubt that the car came from Berger. Ed C. had on his list the last Berger car as 649305. My car is 649339. There are 3 other cars I know of between these 2 VINs, 310, 311 and 313. All of them just happen to be 9737 cars. Perhaps because of the unique parts for the 9737 COPO, all of the COPOs built during that period were all double COPOs. Since my car is an 05D, and this BB car is an 05E, (which was a 4 day week due to the Memorial Day weekend), I'm going to guess that it was built on Monday, May 26th.
The NICB said that my car was shipped on June 2nd, the Monday after the 3 day weekend. |

"all of the COPOs built during that period were all double COPOs."
Andy, there were plenty of COPOs built between 05D and 05E which were not double COPOs. |
Re: COPO on Ebay
Stefano, just conjecture on my part. My point was that between cars 649305 and 649339, all 5 that I mentioned are 9737 cars. You are correct that there were a lot of 05D COPOs, but I'm sure you have a bigger list than I do. We know that they came down the line in batches, so it's not an argument, just an observation that I made about those 5 cars. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
BTW, how many 05E cars do you know of? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |

Re: COPO on Ebay
Hi guys - I purchased the burnish brown copo on ebay. Just thought that I'd satisfy some of your curiosity. I'm tracking down a couple of real good leads on motor and trans. Please feed me any additional info. I've been a member for some time - just not active recently. Some of you may recall that I posted photos of my other copo - forest green, one owner, always garaged, POP, out of Michigan - a few years ago. I'm a collector, not a flipper - I'll do the car justice in restoration. Regards, Bergy

Re: COPO on Ebay
Nice buy https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif It would be great if you can keep the camera at the ready and lead us through your restoration. Hope you marry up the original drive train.

Bruce... good luck in the restoration! Post photos of your green car!

Re: COPO on Ebay
Thanks for the comments. By the way...my fathom green car was probably built on the same day as the burnish brown car (sequence # 302262 vs 302060). Probably the last day of 05E. I tried to post a photo of completed green car, but file is too big. Anyone know how to reduce the file size?

Re: COPO on Ebay
Did X11 COPO's get the pinstripe?
|
Re: COPO on Ebay
Short answer is yes unless another stripe was ordered, such as D90 or DX1.
Factory ordering info states one stripe per car; Z/28s with style trim did not have the D96 pin stripes. But Z10s and Z11s had both - go figure. |

Re: COPO on Ebay
William,
So X11 COPO's got pinstripes. Didn't Yenko order a few COPOs with Style trim? How did he deal with the pinstripes on those X11 COPOs? Remove them? |
Re: COPO on Ebay
Yenko's are X66's (first 50) and if I not mistaken the remainder are X44's.
|
Re: COPO on Ebay
Yes there were a few style trim Yenkos. The famous photo of the back lot shows a yellow one. I do not know what they did with the pin stripes.
|
Re: COPO on Ebay
My Silver X11 COPO had the black Pinstripes.

The HO car in the photo has the pin stripes...

Re: COPO on Ebay
That was actually a discussion a few of us had at SCR11... Brian Potter has an X11 hugger orange Yenko currently in restoration, and we were discussing how it likely would have been sold when new. My personal belief is that the X11 stripes would have remained, in addition to the Yenko stripes, which would have been up on the body high enough to not interfere with the painted on pinstripes. I have absolutely no proof or verification of this, I just can't see someone at Yenko sanding off/buffing pinstripes... I'd guess the guys who were hastily striping the cars just pulled a stripe kit off the shelf that matched the factory pinstripe color and had at it... then again i could be totally wrong, which wouldn't be the first time... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: COPO on Ebay
It only takes a second to buff off an original factory pinstripe. They were just laying on top of the laquer paint. No real adhesion. Alot of them were accidently buffed off by people who got aggressive with their waxing. 10 minutes and a old Sioux buffer, and you'd never know they were ever on the car.

Re: COPO on Ebay
As Joe stated above, my x11 yenko car also has an orig pic (around 1970) showing the pinstripes on the car with all its race decals etc.

Re: COPO on Ebay
Thanks for the info! I spoke to Dave Ewing (former owner of the delivering dealership) and he hooked me up with his former manager of the high performance area of his dealership. The manager remembered ordering my burnish brown car because of the unusual color and the RS option (he delivered a dozen or so copo Camaros). He even remembers the original customer who bought it! He's still around andI'll be speaking to him this weekend. Thanks guys for all of your help and encouragement with my "project". Bruce
p.s. the high performance manager said that he tried to talk the customer out of ordering a console because it was useless weight that would slow the car down! I'm glad that the customer prevailed in the negotiations. |
Re: COPO on Ebay
Glad the info worked out for you.
Any other known Ewing copos on the board? |
Re: COPO on Ebay
Bruce,
Did yr car come out of Ewing Chev. in Canton, OH? Sam |
Re: COPO on Ebay
Sam
yes, that Ewing, go back to pg6. last post NCIB info is there. Bruce Always herd stories about a BB COPO out of Ewing from the local Canton boy's, nobody knew what happened to it ...now we know. Your car most likely had this little Gem of a sticker on the windshield https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...ke/copo002.jpg This was on a 17k mile Ewing COPO Camaro I restored for a local collector. Mr. Chevy ,Rich here had some of these made, I think, Rich are you there ?? When you start working on this COPO you are required by sYc law to post a crap load of photos, in a thread that you start, on it's progress https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif We will be watching. Re: COPO on Ebay
Testors has a kit where you can print waterslide decals on your computer... wonder if it works... would be cool to have the decal on the BB RS COPO...

Re: COPO on Ebay
Interesting, the trans was for sale just a few miles away from Canton. Wonder when it got separated from the car....
|
Re: COPO on Ebay
Thanks for the info on the Ewing sticker Mike. I spoke to the original owner of my car today, He is sending me photos of the car when it had 25 miles on it! I'll post them when they get here. He had many neat stories - took the car to the track with slicks - no tubs - and his best run was 11.84. He kept the time slip in his wallet for years (wish he still had it!). Listen to this - the reason that he ordered liquid tire chain was to convert the system to spray bleach at the track!
