Re: Sidepipes

------I have a friend in south Fla. that has an original 67 L88. I think he told me one time that they did dyno pulls with underneath exhaust and sidepipes and there was a 60hp difference. I think that the difference would be more pronounced with an L88 than say a 327/350 but the fact is sidepipes (chambered exhaust) are very restrictive. He got the exhaust guys from northern Ohio (Stainless something or other) to make him three inch free flowing sidepipes. I think he has Hedman sidepipe headers now connecting everything and he says that the combo is the best he could come up with. You almost cant tell the difference in the big sidepipes by looking unless you know, and they fit under the covers.
------I bought a set of thier 2 1/2 inch free-flow sidepipes for our 66 390 and the car felt like it gained 30hp instantly over the original sidepipes. The stainless part is the frosting on the cake as I no longer have to scour the tips and the headpipes once a year to get rid of the surface rust. They are a bit louder and Jan doesnt like that part......Oh well !!!!!!.........Bill S

When Terry Pennington changed the exhaust on his wifes pure stock 69 L88 drag race Corvette from chambered side pipes to 2 1/2" mandrel bent pipes with Dynaflow mufflers, the car picked up a full 8 tenths https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif second in the quarter mile. It takes some serious horsepower to make that much difference.

http://www.allencorvetteexhaustsystems.com/ Maybe this is who you're talking about. They make a great product. I know it's a bit on the newer side, but I have their stainless chambered under-the-car exhaust on my '96 LT-4 Corvette and it sounds wild. My gas mileage is terrible actually because i just loving winging the motor up on the gear changes listening to those pipes!
