Luke-warm water. Soak decal for maybe 30 seconds and carefully test if it slips freely from the backing but do not let it come off of the backing. If it doesn't slip on the backing let it soak a little longer. Once it slips on the backing carefully locate the decal on the glass, preferably on the inside* (face-down) and slowly slide the paper backing free leaving the decal on the window. Gently maneuver the decal to the exact position you want it in and use more water if the decal begins to stick before you get it where you want it. Once located where you want it, use a soft fabric cloth (I use clean men's hankerchiefs = no lint) to lightly press out any air bubbles that might have developed between the decal and the glass. I have heard that guys used to lightly brush varnish over the decal placed on the interior glass to preserve it but I have not tried that myself. Good luck!

*Clean the glass with Windex first and then wipe the area with a clean, damp cloth to remove any Windex residue. Windex residue might damage the decal, especially old decals.

The instructions on the paper backing of this decal mentioned using varnish brushed over the decal (once it was fully dry) to keep it in place. Anyone ever do that or remember that from the old days? I've seen varnished decals on old cars and they look as good as the day they were applied.

Andy,just remember not to try and slide the decal off the paper with your index finger before it is properly moistened ,thusly ripping the decal in two. Ive done that many times..If it gets too wet is slimy and hard to set in place without rolling up.

Yep, what King said. If it does crack or tear just STOP and carefully add moisture and keep going. I've had decals all wadded up and on their way to the toilet for a final swim and then saved them with careful effort and loads of patience. Just don't let the decal come off of the backing in the water. If it does, just slide the paper under the decal in the water and get it back onto the paper.

I add just a few drops of dishwashing liquid (I like Dawn),to the warm water too.
It aids in lubricating the decal to slide more uniformly off the backing paper.
I've found other brands of dishwashing liquid to have too heavy an oil content in them that show once the transfer has dried on the glass.This gives them small distracting rainbow spectrums throughout when the sunlight hits them.
