factory 4 bolt main 1969 motor ..here is the other end of the pad stamp 7115 crank was in with 3/8 dot rods and 11 to 1 type pistons..

She is not a L-36 marine engine as posted earlier then Chuck. I have seen COPO factory stamped on the pad of two BBC engines and they also had it on the cowl tag right at the bottom.I don't remember the codes that came after the dates but both were installed in 68 full size chev 4 door police interceptors ordered with a 427 425 hp and a m22.Talk about a chase car. I am not sure if they offered the same COPO option to the 69 full size but my guess would be that motor is out of a very rare police car.

With the L72 being an RPO in '69 in the full size cars, there would be no need to have a COPO designation unless I'm missing something.

[/ QUOTE ] Im not familiar with the police cars but i do know there was a white COPO 396 police car on ebay a few years back,and i know 396s came in chevelles[maybe it was the model that it came in?? that made a certain engine a COPO order???

It could be for a number of reasons including special suspension or shocks, heavy duty radiator (AC radiator in an non AC car), special wiring harness, towing package in a car it's not available, special gearing. I don't know if any or all of these would demand a COPO order, but they could. Weren't there some special order 4 banger Novas that John Z talked about? They had a crummy drive-train combination that made them barely able to climb a hill, but they built them under the COPO designation.

I hear what you are saying Keith and yes you could just order a full size 69 with the l-72 with a RPO but you could not order a 69 police car with one that would be a COPO order. That is the difference.
Not sure on 69's but I know 68's police cars had both the 120 and 140 speedo and some had the tach and guage package.
Many assume all had the 140 but that is not true.

GM seems to have done a lot of odd things. You just never know. What you say sounds reasonable to me.

Skokie Illinois Police had 69 Full size 427 chase /dick car and also 426 Polara (?) unmarked.
