Why dip the parts? I can get runs with rattle cans! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Nothin like virgin runs https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif. Runs and all, nothing like a well preserved survivor car.

Dipping also gives many parts a whole different appearence then those that are sprayed as it gives the part a shadow or halo appearence that cannot be acheived from spraying.

When I transferred to the Oshawa truck plant in 1983, they still had a parts paint line. The parts did go through a cleaning tank before being painted. The trick can some times be figuring out which hole the part was hung from when going down the paint line. Wouldn't want the runs going the wrong direction. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif Just lately, a guy was telling me that the paint tanks actually had a couple of inches of paint floating on water. If this were true, the part would be coated with paint before it hit the water. The only reason for the water would be to cut down the amount of paint sitting in the tank. Anyone else ever heard this story. It came from a Corvette guy, and you know how they can be about restorations?

That makes perfect sense, and yes, I've heard this before. Quite honestly, just a cost saving process.
And before anyone questions it............ try it. It works, and quite well!

There was an article in Musclecar Review several years ago about dip painting and how to do it. It was a Mustang guy describing it and they showed using water in a 5 gal pail with a gallon of black paint floating on the surface.

I can't see that it would make much difference. They're both lighter than water.

Just don't use latex paint! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

It's been awhile back but I think the MCR article said they used Rustoleum enamel.
