Re: 69 Yenko Camaro
Cool another original car has been found, but sucks that someone got taken on the other orange car with the real car's VIN. I know its "buyer beware" with stuff like this, but I can't help feel a bit sorry for the guy who paid big money for this other car that "appeared" to have the correct VIN and was thought to be an original car...wonder what the hidden firewall VIN is on it? Anyone know who restored this other car?

Re: 69 Yenko Camaro
For that kind of money you'd think that the buyer would have had it inspected by a professional before taking possession, or at least looked at the firewall #'s himself. That auction was nearly 2 yrs ago https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif

The car was raced a lot at Paragould. I was given photo albums to make copies from. It was also run at Sikeston if I remember correct and also at Ozark International in Springfield. [/ QUOTE ] Ha...Ozark was my stomping ground...we may have ran against that car! You get to Poplar Bluff once a month? There are a few sYc members there, and we're about 90 miles west of there... |
Re: 69 Yenko Camaro
Who bought the Yenko set at that auction and was it later broken up?

Re: 69 Yenko Camaro
If the car in question is indeed the 5000 mile orange car, it is probably the same car Super Chevy's (row of LS6's) had in 1989. I am 100% certain Super Chevy's bought it restored. I am also fairly certain it was bought from Los Gatos Ferrari whom also bought it restored, but I might be wrong on where Super Chevy's bought it. I know it was a dealer that had it, that I am fairly certain the selling dealer did not do the restoration either. Super Chevy's bought it in the summer of 1989. Super Chevys sold it in the parking lot in Scotsdale after no saleing it at the 1990 BJ auction. I want to say it brought $90K bids. All the heavy hitters were on it. I want to say it was sold to someone in Idaho? Iowa? to a collector, and I want to say it was $97K. I looked that car over and cannot remeber finding a hidden VIN under the cowl, but it is not hard for that to be painted out anyway. If there would have been any noticable problem, Super Chevy's would have stuffed it back to the dealer they bought it from in a second. No one ever suspected the car was a rebody so in those days nobody over scrutinized these cars. They were ONLY worth $100K then! ONLY $100K! That was monster money in 1990.
So if this is indeed the same VIN number as the hidden VIN car, someone obviously made a deal to buy a VIN tag from the race car and let the owner of the original race car keep the race car. I am not sure who is more of the crook in this deal. The guy that may have built a car around a VIN tag, or the guy that sold the car twice! It is a real shame, because at the time, the orange car was probably the nicest restored Yenko around, hence the record sale in 1989. Except for a less then perfect urethane single stage paint job that really needed some attention. The rest of the car was super nice even including what appeared to be excellent original interior. The car was really done by a pro to look as real as it did. I do not remeber the car having any pedigree stating who did the restoration. If it was a big name, seems I would have rembered it. |

I'm surprised this thread got so quiet.

Re: 69 Yenko Camaro
Nobody knows where the car is with the vin plate on it, nor who actually performed the rebody https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: 69 Yenko Camaro
Does anyone know who was the buyer of the 5 car set at the auction?
