Yeah Joe, mine are exactly like yours. The inner ring has faded a bit but the main problem was the lighting and the reflection of the white garage ceiling.

Re: 1968 P01 wheel covers

I am leaning toward using the 15" wheels and dog dishes I have, cause 14" wheels get lost in the wheelwells of this size of car, but I am not sure If I want to mess with originality beyond that. The only other changes from stock that I am considering right now are 3.73 gears (orig 3.31)and maybe headers. This is a manual brakes manual steering car, so if I added discs I would have to add booster etc, then I might as well put power steering etc., and by that point I really have probably changed too much from stock.

Hi Mark:
I guess I all depends on what you plan on doing with the car.Once you change the gears and put headers on it the car is no longer built original. If you plan on driving it you will appreciate the power steering and the power disc brakes.Just keep the original parts in case you want to make it 100% stock some day and it is a easy switch back
Have you driven one of these big 427 bears with standard steering and brakes. If not I would start there then drive one with the factory discs and p/s. I cannot count how many times over the years I could not get one of these big sleds stopped with the manual brakes. It is not a secure feeling.
Many of the 68's came with the discs and the rally wheel covered with a full hub cap. They look real good and were common on a lot of the police packages.
take care
Joe

Re: 1968 P01 wheel covers

Joe,
I've never driven one of these cars with manual brakes and steering.. I can only imagine what its like https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif. Its a tough call on restoring this car because it is so bare bones that adding the power assist stuff might take away from its "personality".
The only options it had are the L36, m20,am radio, posi and the hubcaps. That is it.
On the other hand it could be altered and then returned to stock later also. I already have a power box from a parts car, so I would just need to put together a disc set up.
I'll have to do some thinking on that...I'm a ways off from that point anyway right now i'm still gathering missing parts. I think being a Canadian built car its probably pretty rare, and parts in this day and age are not easily found, I think a lot of these things got raped for mechanical parts for Chevelles, Camaros, Novas and the like...and then recycled into soup cans and Toyotas.
Thats an interesting fact about the rally wheels and hubcaps, I didn't know that.

Hi Mark:
However you decide to build it will make a nice car. Here is a picture of the 15" hub caps off the impala site that I have seen over the rally wheels. I watched probally 3 sets of these sell on e-bay in the past year so they do show up.

Hmm. black car. very nice. I see on this car the 427 marker emblems are black..mine are a red ribbed foil?.I actually got the car with red ones on it, and a spare red one and a black one for some reason.
Most of the cars I see photos of have the black emblems.
I also see some cars have a red bowtie in the upper front header or grille molding, most are blue. The one on my car is blue, but I wondered if its supposed to be red since the emblems are red?
