How does the State of Arizona define "Collectable Vehicle"?

Here in California, there is a age threshold. See Cali. reqyuirements below:

"Smog inspections are required unless your vehicle is:

Hybrid
1975 year model or older
Diesel powered
Electric
Natural gas powered and has a Gross Vehicle Weight rating of 14,001 lbs. or more.
Motorcycle
Trailer"

It appears AZ defines 'collectible' as a car that qualifies for collector car insurance.

Absolutely correct. This week I went to the AZ MVD office to register my Chevelle. I took my letter from MK Insurance proving that it was insured on a Collector policy, which was sufficient to give me exemption from the emissions test. To go one step further, I had a set of 1969 Arizona passenger car license plates, and I asked if I could legally register those plates to the car. The young lady at the MVD office had to ask a couple questions and make a couple phone calls, but eventually it got done https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

A tip of the hat https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif to your friend we saw at the Pavillions (uh, oops, sorry, can't remember his name https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif ) who indicated that year-of-manufacture plates could be legally registered on a vehicle here https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ouguysrock.gif

Thank GOD Jersey has the QQ, antique tag system, which also avoids emissions. When I firt got the Camaro in the late 80's and ran it thru a station, it immediately clogged the device and the dials all went to 99999999. (when it should have been, like a 6.2 or sumpin' like that!lolololo

I have the phone number of the special plate office that okays the vintage plates. Going thru the local DMV office is a crapshoot, sometimes you get the right person like Bill did and sometimes you get someone who won't help you or doesn't know the rules. I've heard of guys being told it's not possible. The special plate office checks to see if that sequence number is in use and if it isn't they okay the plate. I have a number of plates I plan to check on and I will let you know what they say.
