Re: Has Mobil 1 changed???

Norm, I decided to check my 2000 Camaro SS since it runs Mobil 1 but I have a pretty bad head cold right now and can't really smell much of anything. It looks a little dark with around 1500 miles on it, but then the LS1 is a high compression motor and runs at a pretty high temp stock. I need to get that lower temp t-stat put in when we break out of the cold weather for sure. I used to run the Castrol Syntec in my old 91 454SS pickup that had a newer crate motor in it. I've never seen oil look so clean after 4000 miles of driving and never used a drop with that motor. But that motor was around 7.9:1 compression so that probably makes a difference.

Same here Before my Grand Cherokee I had a 91 full size Blazer
With the 350 T/b Used Valvoline synthetic for 15 year s and put on 195,000 hard miles on it and the oil always looked clean By the way I was washing the jeep today and was in my Garage and found an old quart of molbil 1 form a few years ago
Opened it up and smelled it and then smell the newer Mobil 1 and there is something going on here. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/ooo.gif It is not the same thing https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

By The way Joe Let me know how you make out
This is something I need to follow up on
The vette has Valvoline and it looks good
but then I have not driven it much lately and has about 200 mile on the oil

Re: Has Mobil 1 changed???

Hi Norm:
Yes Sir. Valvoline in both the car and the truck now and the lifter tick I was getting on the cold morning start ups in the truck is gone.I thought all along it was just that the truck was getting old.No more mobile one for me and I have been a big user for over 20 years.Truck oil with 1000 miles looked like it was in there for years and did stink like you said.Brother just switched his honda and his 2005 gm truck also last week. Thanks for letting us know https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Has Mobil 1 changed???

Does this mean that M1 is no longer good for 9-10K miles before dumping it? I use a Wix filter changing it every 4.5K miles. Whats a better choice for extended oil change intervals ?

Hi Craig:
All I know is the stuff I took out of the truck after 1000 miles looked like I had not changed it for years.Real black and smelly Normally I could not see it on the stick after 1000 miles.

Re: Has Mobil 1 changed???

Up date have 1,000 mile on my wifes jeep Just checked it tonight and still looks good and it DOES not have that funny smell, Also have not had that valve tap on the cold morning starts snice I put in Valvoline
so it is Valvoline synthetic for now on and good by Mobil 1

Re: Has Mobil 1 changed???

I haven't noticed any funny smell with the Mobil1 in my 2000 SS as of now but it does look darker than I would expect it to. I may change to Valvoline or Castrol when it's time for an oil change. I ran Syntec in the 454SS and that motor ran nice and smooth and never burned a drop of oil. I don't think Mobil1 is as good as it used to be so why pay the extra for it.
