Re: heres my "one that got away"
June 1974. I was 16 and was out for a drive. As I did from time to time, I stopped by Twin Pine Auto Sales in Ephrata, PA to check out their current offering as they were known for their selection of muscle cars at the time. As I pulled onto the lot, I was stopped dead in my tracks by the sight of a 1969 Shelby GT500 convertible sitting front and center near the showroom. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif I remember that car like it was yesterday . Gulfstream aqua, gold stripes, white interior, white convertible top. 428, four speed. Absolutely pristine condition and stunning as it sat in the bright sunshine. One problem . . . to the tune of $4,500. Sounds like a pittance now but at the time $4,500 was all the money in the world. I worked part time after school making $1.85 and hour. It sure made an impression on me. It was a real joy just to see it!
Thinking of that day long ago reminds me of how much enjoyment you can get just from being around great muscle cars, even if you don't own one. |

back in 1974 i lived in the north end of columbus ohio, me and a couple buddies shared a 3 bedroom apartment. it was close to christmas time and on morse road there was an old house that set up near the road. one day there was a black with white yenko stripe 69 chevelle setting right next to the house with a small for sale sign in the window. i stopped and checked it out, it looked mostly original and clean. asking $3000, looking futher i seen it was a automatic, bummer. at the time i had a 69 Z/28 and a 66 SS chevy II L/79. i wanted a 4 speed so i thought i would wait and someday i would find one. "somedays never come" the car was gone in a few short days and i have never seen it locally again. snooze ya loose. dennis [/ QUOTE ] Do you remember THE PATIO @ Morse Rd. and Karl Rd. all the street racers hung out there every weekend in the summer. |

Re: heres my "one that got away"
Heres one for you, in 82 dad bought a 69 Yenko camaro from a guy who had parked it because he said it run to rough. we paid $3000 for it it had been painted blue but in great shape. a few years later pro street was becoming big and i had to have a pro street car. so i bought another 69, mom said something had to go. to dumb to realize it we sold the Yenko to a guy in hampton this was around 86. that was a bad move. 2 years later i sold the pro steet car to buy a house. Man i sure wish i had the Yenko back. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif

[/ QUOTE ] Keep an ear out for anyone who remembers a Deepwater Blue non-rallysport 67 Z28 in that area around that timeframe. Last I traced it, it was traded in at Twin Pines in early Summer 1976. Sold new out of Calhoun in Philadelphia, spent its whole life between there and the Lancaster area, from what it seems so far. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...Z/IMG_0232.jpg |
Re: heres my "one that got away"
Not that I am smart now but I was real stupid 20-25 years ago.
I guess the worse ones would be watching my best friends original 69 L88 vet leave the yard for $4000 and finding it about 5 years later for $7500 but would not take it because the clutch was bad. or passing up an original 69 Hemi superbee for 1800 less it's original motor but knew where the motor was and it was obtainable. or seeing a add in the local paper 67 Chevrolet for sale standard.$2000 or best offer.4 door sedan I assumed, nope 67 vet 427 4spd. I could go on but won't. |
Re: heres my "one that got away"
i called my buddy who looked at the car with me back then, i didn't lead him with any questions and he agreed it was a black 69 yenko chevelle. i am no expert on yenko production colors, but it looked real to me. i guess someone could have cloned one even back then? ... yes i remember the PATIO that was a kool place. morse road was a nice place to cruise back then with JERRY'S drive in at one end and the PATIO at the other. lastly, i live near lancaster, ohio now. do you know you owned the 67 Z/28 back then? dennis

Re: heres my "one that got away"
Couple I lost, for sale 1970 Barracuda, stick shift , orange. I show up, 440 six pack, hemi orange, 4 spd, white top and white leather interior, shaker, dent in the 1/4. Son's car, bought it just before Nam, Dad put the dent in the 1/4 pulling it out of the garage the week before the ad in the paper came out. Son never made it out of Nam, they kept the car all these years (how many times have you heard this story?)wanted $3k around 1983-4. Asked dad for the money, he said I was nuts, look for an Escort instead, but Dad this will be worth a lot of money someday, trust me, He didn't. Very true story, I helped the Father jump it to get it started, Also had a shot at a 70 Buick GS Stage 1 Conv 4spd, all orig, around the $3k mark as well , same ending on that as well. Sad ending to this I did end up with a POS Escort...

Re: heres my "one that got away"
Summer of 77 before I went off to college I had to make a tough choice. I could keep my 69 triple black SS 4spd Chevelle with a built motor that I couldn't keep my foot out of and would only make from one gas station to the next. Or sell it and buy a 76 Corolla. I let the Chevelle go for under $1000, had the POS Corolla all thru college. The second owner after me hit a cow at a high rate of speed and that was it for the Chevelle. I probably would have killed myself in that car and have no regrets about getting my degree. Sure would like to have that car back though, it was the nicest car in the little podunk town I lived in.

No record of ownership before then, but appears to have always been titled in PA https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
