Re: How do you keep all your magazines?
I keep mine in copier paper boxes in my downstairs closet and my bedroom closet. I have a bunch more up in my attic in rubbermade totes. I have no idea how many magazines i have but i have been collecting them since the mid 1980's.

Re: How do you keep all your magazines?
Today, most of my magazine storage looks something like this. I bought what's called "Bankers Boxes". I put labels on them all with date spreads in come cases. I vacuum them off from time to time. I like the fact that I can get to them whenever I need them.
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...eStoragetn.jpg Starting in around '67, I set up an old Royal manual typewriter and got some 3x5 index cards and a used metal box. I sat down and went through every magazine I had at the time (and continued sitting for the next few years) and made a library of all the interesting cars that were featured. http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...IndexBoxtn.jpg It's funny, but with today's computer capabilities, I don't think I'd take on a project like that again. It just seemed ok at the time. Verne |
Re: How do you keep all your magazines?
Looks nice Verne but try and beat my method of scattering them around the home office, all three washrooms and the garage! . Keeping the bulk of them in deep boxes helps me weed out the unimportant searches too, but when I really need the item I'm after...surprisingly I can usually come up with what I'm looking for!? .
Why does it always seem that any mag you may reach for, no matter if you haven't seen it in a decade or more, you can almost always usually remember exactly what's on the next page...just try and remember to pick up milk on the way home though? . https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif ~ Pete PS - Verne...that fancy little example card there, how 'bout letting us see the '68 427/430 mag...is it an L88 in a Camaro? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif . |
Re: How do you keep all your magazines?
Do any of you other guys buy old car magazines if you find a good deal on one, even though you might already have several copies of that issue? I was just talking to a friend yesterday and we have no good answer why we do that---several times over.

[/ QUOTE ] No.......I buy dozens of duplicates when offered to me as a package. I get the ones I was missing and usually give other sYc members the duplicates when they are looking for one. Rick |
Re: How do you keep all your magazines?
Well Pete,
After making it look like I was very organized, I need to tuck my head between my legs and go sit in the corner. I have a lot of magazines piled in boxes because there isn't enough room on the shelves for all of them. I went and looked through everything I could find and I could not come up with that issue. God knows where it is.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif I even checked the SS&DI and SS&FX issues to make sure I didn't catalog it wrong https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif |
Re: How do you keep all your magazines?
Two words Verne:
HOLY COW! Great organization and record keeping. |
Re: How do you keep all your magazines?
.....The truth comes out....Time to fire up the old Royal typewriter again.

Re: How do you keep all your magazines?
As I said, I also looked through other Oct. .'68 issues of the "SS" series of mags. Found this one in SS&DI. Who would have ever thought these pictures would be in an Oct. '68 issue?????
I guess this lays to rest the theory that the car was destroyed in a towing wreck. Read the outcome! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif Verne http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...nos61wreck.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...s61wreck-1.jpg The REALLY cool thing was that those top racers back then were flat-towing their cars all over the country (with a 4 year old base model car!) Just imagine: You're carrying "everything" you need in those two cars, then in 2 days you get it fixed and win the next race over 1000 miles away! There are no more icons in drag racing like that anymore! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif |
Re: How do you keep all your magazines?
Really great article Verne, you're forgiven for not finding the other one...still interested if you do come up w/ it later! .
The cops '60 Chevys sure look ugly compared to our hero's fresh looking '61...still the same situation today! . I wonder if a Police report exists w/ the Vin of the accident vehicle noted? . https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif ~ Pete |
