Re: Cone Chevrolet Fullerton CA
Cone Bros. Fullerton
Zone # 20 Dealer # 123 Kim, Are you the same L78 Nova owner that posted this cool info below on the NCRS site?. "...Cone Bros. had ties to Drag racing heavy in the 60s and early 70s and sponsored cars of the era such as Hayden Profitts 62 Z11 Impala. Also had ties to Bill Thomas race cars of Anaheim CA. Nickey Chevrolet fame. The Owner of Cone also was a board member at the Orange County International raceway. My 70 Nova L78 came from this dealer. I also would like to know if they were related to Cone Bros Chevrolet in Anaheim..." https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif ~ Pete |
Re: Cone Chevrolet Fullerton CA
Hi Pete...Yes I was the one who had submitted that data. I made a mistake and it should be Cone Chevrolet Fullerton and not Cone Bros Anaheim. The story I added is true but I had the wrong Cone. I have one plate ring but would like to have a second as CA. dealers had a habit of mounting them on front and rear. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Those are nice but later issue 70 and up frames. Chuck always has the goods though, IMO!!! The lower frame pictured here is most likely correct for 68-70 specific years only! http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1...rameImages.jpg Typically, by the maunfacturer who made these on the west coast, as noted on the below image, the Tear Drops on the lower mounting of the License Plate Frame / License Plate was general issue back then. This is not to say that each dealer followed this pattern; as per the above CONE issued frames! http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1...FrameImage.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Cone Chevrolet Fullerton CA
We have a few sets of the Cone frames like the ones shown above...and the date coding on the back matches up to 1967...and living in the area I remember the red frames being the later issued ones (similar to the Selman frames of the time) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
BTW, Chuck bought these from the same guy I bought mine from...at the same time. Chuck out bid me...and the guy had another set that he sold to me https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |
Re: Cone Chevrolet Fullerton CA
RE:RPOz11 Thanks for your reply.....I have not had any luck as of yet. Iam still looking for 1 good one. The lower style of the Black dealer plate(s) pic you submitted. The pic of the plate and frame I attached in the beginning of the thread was from an original one owner 1970 full sized wagon that was sold new in the same month my car was and the blue plate alpha numeric id are very close to my car as well. The ones that were on ebay (427 king) are from a earlier style as stated later on in the thread. I did not know ther was dates cast into these frames and would be curious as to where they are? I believe Robert Brown co. out of Downey CA. was doing most of the frames in the southern Ca. area. Thanks to all who are helping out as well.

Re: Cone Chevrolet Fullerton CA
Kim,
I was in SoCal recently...and went into some antique places that I know of. I didn't have any luck with plate frames...but I did find a cool yardstick from Banner Chevrolet in Denton TX...from 1969 with the slogan...putting you first keeps us first! I will keep looking though! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Cone Chevrolet Fullerton CA
Thanks Bruce......I know you would have given me a holler and still would if you found any. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif. I did want to ask you if you or your brother had a better picture of the CONE plate or placard that was on the front of your brothers car (67 Camaro) when the original owner brought it home. The one pic you submitted looks like it may have been card stock due to the curling on the outside edges.
