Re: 1966 Chevelle
[ QUOTE ]
The true 360 hp most were 4-bolt blocks. [/ QUOTE ] This might be true but it hasn't been my experience. I've heard about and seen VERY few 66 360 hp Chevelles that had the 962 block. All but a handful have been 961. |
Re: 1966 Chevelle
I have owned 5 962 4-bolt 360 hp and have since one 961 4-bolt block still own 2 https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Re: 1966 Chevelle
My '66 L78 is a 961 block. It was a Fremont build 07B.

Re: 1966 Chevelle
I'd have to respectfully disagree and chalk your experience up to bizarre coincidence.. 325 and 360hp 66 Chevelles almost always got 961 2 bolt blocks.. 375hp got the 4 bolt 962 block.. exceptions to all cases of course..

Re: 1966 Chevelle
If I recall correctly, back in the day, there was a service
bulletin issued by GM to all dealers alerting them to the fact that some of the 360hp engines used 4-bolt main blocks. I believe that this was done to avoid piston dome confusion ( collision ) with the oval port heads. I guess in a round about way I am saying that I believe both blocks were used across the 360hp application. |
Re: 1966 Chevelle
Not denying both were used.. but wayyyy less 962 360hp than 961's... FACTORY INSTALLED 360's were predom. 2 bolt 961

Kind of like the story about the 3 blind men trying to figure out an elephant. That my story and I'm going to stick with it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: 1966 Chevelle
One of the reason I felt most were 4-bolt blocks I looked at block 15 years ago that was a 961 block with factoy 4-bolt mains and also was suffixed as a 360 hp. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
