Re: 480 distributor
well, this all started when i had the car certified a few weeks ago - and was told the 2003 distributor installed in the car was not correct. My Z car is a one owner car, with 1400 miles and the orig owner swore the distribuor was never changed....so,,,,,,,,,,,,,it seems that maybe i do have the correct distributor in the car...jeff at dated components called me and quoted out of the 69 parts book dated sept 69 that a 2003 is correct for the late cars.......anyone have some documented info i can have as a copy to keep with the car????

Re: 480 distributor
I'm not arguing with any owners here,or Jeff D.,but I have yet to see the #2003 distributor documented anywhere in any parts books or similar materials from any time period.
It does sound like it came on VERY late 1969 Z/28's ONLY,and an 11A would be exactly that, but I have that P&A 30M parts book dated 9/69 and it does not mention the #1112003 in it anywhere. Also that particular P&A 30M was for 1970 vehicles only and it shows #1112001 & 2 for applications completely different then this one mentioned here. I would like to know if besides actual owners cars,if anyone has any old GM printed materials shedding more detailed info about #1112003 distributor. ------------------- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...sbearslogo.gif CROWN EM! |
Re: 480 distributor
The 2003 is a delco part and there is no listing for it. the theory is that they ran out of the 480 and made a batch to finish up.this car is a extension car it went into the 70 year, thats why the 70 is called 70 and a half. GM was not going to stop production because of a part, they just ran a diferent batch.

Re: 480 distributor
I'm aware of the 69 overlap into the 70 production cycle, but has this particular distributor been documented between any two known exact useage dates among the 69 Camaro contingent?
What puzzles me is if they ran out of #480's,why not just go back and make more #480's instead of coming out with a completely different # for the same application that does not apply to anything else later on? Or is it possible they just stamped a number 3 over an already made #1112002 distributor for convenience...can you look closely at yours? GM shared Delco #'s as well & I don't see this distributor no. appearing in any of the old Delco-Remy parts books either. |
Re: 480 distributor
I have had 2 2003 distributors in the past that had x's stamped over the last two numbersand an 03 stamped in one, while the other had just the x'd out digits[I say the second was a 2003 because it came in a 40K mile Z.. Much like you will see the 1112000's with x's thru the last 2 digits and nothing stamped in ther place. There was one on ebay a few weeks ago and ive also had a few of them .

Re: 480 distributor
My 2003 dist has no x marks on it . . its dated 9G11, vac adv 201 and cam is a 532CCW.
jeff indicated his research has shown in the 70 parts book, dated sept of 69 the distributor 2003 as a 70 dist for a 302 engine...which we know never had a 302 for 1970 cars. He also said that the cam may have been a 530 cam with a little less slot to handle emmisions for the 70 yr. Im no way an expert on research of this stuff, but there seems to be something about the late cars and this distributor 2003. Maybe more info can surface from other members to help establish a pattern. |
Re: 480 distributor
I see now what Jeff is referring to in the P&A 30M.
He's looking specifically at the #163 Vacuum Advance in Group 2.410 and noting the #1112003 distributor sidebar. That's the first time I've ever seen it noted anywhere. As all on this thread have replied, the #2003 does indeed look to be authentic to the VERY late built 1969 Z/28's. |
