Shifters were the same but the engine mounts, trans crossmember, shifter mounting brackets and shift rods and lower lockout rod are different between big and small blocks. GM engineers had to offset the big block engine/transmission assembly an inch or so towards the passenger side for steering box clearance so that required a thicker shifter mount bracket to maintain its position relative to the console.

I've been told the bb shifter used a special oval shaped nut on the adjustment bolt, while the sb used a standard nut. In fact, a special nut sold on ebay a couple of weeks ago for $68. If it's true that they are different, can anyone explain why?

Check out my original shifter and BB bracket. You can see that my car has the squared off small block nut instead of the "oval" shaped nut. I guess nothing was perfect on the assembly line in those days.

You will notice in the pic that the bracket features a raduised area around the adjusting nut. The proper Big Block adjusting nut will have a similar radius to match the bracket. As you can see, the more squared off small block nut works just fine. I guess on the day my Camaro was assembled, someone pulled the small block nut or there was a shortage of the oval shaped BB nuts.

Where he says "Under the hood there is a correct numbers matching 427-425 horse engine", numbers matching what? I thought this was a recreation? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Once he stamps it, the numbers match. May not have been the 'born with' motor, but the numbers match. I'm surprised at the money this car is bringing- doesn't add up to me.
