Re: engine and vin stamping
Additional information for Engine Identification
A question was asked about the front engine stamp (T0415JH) and the Protect-o-Plate Engine ID of (T0417JH). The following information is provided: - Engine casting date D149 (14 Apr 69) - Engien VIN# stamped next to oil filter reads 11N653402. In the stamping, the number :40: is within a small raised up circle cast in the block. If, the block had been decked to restamp another VIN# the raised up circle would have been decked off. NOTE! VIN on engine appears to be original. - Vehicle VIN last 5 are 53402. - After talking to Mr. Tom Clary (Yenko Club) his recommendation is to post the above information. The facts are: none of us were there to see the engine stamp. (Unknown, did the person not reset the date?) or at the dealers when the Protect-o-Plate was typed in by a salesperson. (Did he see a 5 instead of a 7?) to have just the 2 day disparity between pad stamp and Protect-o-Plate could be "Human error." Without doubt, the car, Protect-o-Plate and titles that accompany the care are a true L78. It's an exceptional, unmoleted true 396/375HP car. The car is available any time for inspection by any member to verify the above, or you can call me at 937-470-5970. |

Re: engine and vin stamping
joey et al.,
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif I have seen numerous examples of disconnects between Chevy docs and car stampings on legitimate, known cars with good histories and no shenanigans. I am no expert to be sure and do not suggest that I am authenticating this car. I am merely stating my observations. Mistakes did happen on the line when cars were stamped (misread, forgot to advance the ganged stamp, etc.) and when POPs were created. To think this didn't happen is to be fooling yourself. Yes, we would all like to have all of our cars perfectly documented with no glitches, questions, anomolies, etc. and setting such standards is terrific. But, you could be missing out on some terrific rides. Good luck, Joey! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

Re: engine and vin stamping
Rick, did Francis Chevrolet move down the street at some point. I wonder why my P-O-P would show a different address? I have talked to the original owner and he confirmed buying the car at Francis Chevrolet. Also, my car is missing the Francis tailpanel emblem so if someone has one I would be interested.

Re: engine and vin stamping
I think they did move later to your location.
That picture was taken last year at a local cruise from the back of a Chevy II,and was authentic from it's original selling dealer. |
