Re: Interesting topic on TC: Baltimore '69 Chevel
I have been observing The L on Kansas built SS cars for about 3 years and was always right on. I had seen some cars that were said to be SS cars with no L but when checking the column joint they were always welded on not bolted like the SS had. I also checked out Baltimore cars and it didnt seem to always have the L. In my area there is 10 Kansas cars to every Baltimore car so I really do not have a opinion on that one. I was once told the L didnt stand for an SS it had something to do with something that was done special since a big block was going to be put in it.

Re: Interesting topic on TC: Baltimore '69 Chevel
How 'bout this Charley....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...2tsTErp_ph.jpg This is the tag from a documented SS. The "L" in discussion is on the bottom line of the stamped information as in the following string: B L180612. The "8" under the build date is also under scrutinization. |
Re: Interesting topic on TC: Baltimore '69 Chevel
Another update (as of 5 April) from Andy (SS69Chevelle) over at Team Chevelle :

All known NON-SS tags have B M/M or no letters (includes special orders) </font> Sample is just under .1% of the chevelles produced at Baltimore plant. Nothing positive yet to define what the letters mean or whether they are SS related to body construction. Could have many more samples but not all the trim tag data was given or available. This list is only as accurate as the data provided, seat types are based on the known trim number provided. If anyone has additional tags or numbers they would like to add to this research please PM me or send an e-mail. No Tag numbers are given out unless specifically approved by the current owner once I have them. Thanks for the help and any future support. Andy Andy can be contacted at: [email protected] Thanks, |
Re: Interesting topic on TC: Baltimore '69 Chevel
Alright, here is a challenge. Show me a trim tag from a '69 Baltimore built Chevelle that does NOT follow the trend in the previous posting. Specifically.....
<font color="blue">All known SS tags have B L or L/number. All known NON-SS tags have B M/M or no letters (includes special orders) </font> |
Re: Interesting topic on TC: Baltimore '69 Chevel
Our GM documented Baltimore '69 SS Chevelle has the "B L". Like Al's, our other Baltimore built Malibu doesn't have the L. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif
