Re: 70 SS Wheel paint
Is the composite picture above implying that these are TWO different survivor wheels with different shades of gray....If somebody were to want accurate info on what color was coming outa Norwood on 14X7 SS Camaros, should I take this either/or answer ......OR do my own homework????

Re: 70 SS Wheel paint
-------Im not sure but I think that the composite picture is a half and half of the two sides of the wheel.........Bill S

Re: 70 SS Wheel paint
The composite is the back side of an original 1969 Wheel compared to the back side of an original 1970 Wheel.
The Left wheel is coded 'AO' the Right is coded 'YA'. The pictures were taken in the same light on the same day. See Tom Williams comments above. |
Re: 70 SS Wheel paint
I will have to check, but I recall our YA wheels as being the lighter gray on the back. Baltimore car. The Oshawa truck plant used to have a wheel paint line until just a few short years ago. The wheels came in painted the base colour and then had the fronts painted on our paint line. Today most wheels are aluminum. I've painted wheels with the rattle can paint and it doesn't last very well. The original paint wasn't a whole lot better. Perhaps a clear coat would seal it. I'm thinking of powder coating the wheels for durability then scuff them and paint them the appropriate colours.

Re: 70 SS Wheel paint
I used a rattle can that was dead nutz on for the '70 AO color, something called Dove Gray'ish https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: 70 SS Wheel paint
As I am in a rush, I just ordered some of the Carbit light gray spray paint that a member suggested, had to buy a case of 12 though. If anyone wants a couple cans, let me know, cost is about $4.50 a can. Thanks to Dave70SS. SULLY

I stopped by the Carbit retail outlet in Lombard yesterday. It closed about a month ago. A notice advised to contact their outlet at 2942 W. North Ave., Chicago. 773-278-7177.

Re: 70 SS Wheel paint
Marlin, Dove grey was that Krylon? I have used that for decades or corvette rear leaf springs...also shadow grey is great for shocks!

Re: 70 SS Wheel paint
Could be, I don't remember exactly.

Re: 70 SS Wheel paint
I've used Krylon #41605 Stone Grey, with great results.
It resembles Bill Pritchards unrestored 1969 YA SS rim. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...tchard0014.jpg |
