He has a complete engine with intake and carbs. He also had a Silver Z28 with a running version of that engine that Gary Holub has now. I also had a running version of that engine in a yellow Z28. I also met a guy at the Reunion that also has a Z28 with that engine. There were a few complete engines and even more heads and intakes made.

Charley,

I had heard that there were heads around, but not intakes.
Also, I was told that this combination did not live up to
its expectations. Didn't Smokey Yunik test these items?

I've heard about a ZL1 that is in a dirt track car here in NJ but I never bothered to look into it. If it sounds familiar I do have a contact I can get in touch with.

[/ QUOTE ] I have heard that there was/is an old Henry J or Ford Anglia street Rod that was powered by a ZL-1 in the Philadelphia area. The engine supposedly is from a ZL-1 Camaro. (Why did all these engines leave their Cars??) The Owner died and I do not know the status of the car now. I am sure somebody does. as I think about it, I am leaning towards the Anglia as having the Engine. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif A ZL-1 engine sold at an Auction in May up in Bensalem, Pa. I was unable to attend but the Auction was run by Barry Slosberg Auctions of Philadelphia. I am sure he knows who bought the engine. It was an eclectic collector of Cool items in poor condition. wooden boats,a Vega, primered 60's and 70's Corvettes, a 69 Camaro with SS Louvers on the Hood (Who knows what the car really was if the ZL-1 engine was in the Garage..... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif! even a Hemi engine went there. one of those Sales I should have went to and Did not.....! Somebody else do the research. I am getting sick thinking about it now.

according the to article in hemmings, the ZL1 did not sell at the auction in Bensalem. The was a Penske sold ZL1 that dropped a valve, and rumour has it that the next 3-4 replacement blocks from GM were 'swiped' before the last one finally made it into the car under warranty. So, that is one way that ZL1 blocks 'appeared' in other cars - if you know what I mean https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: 69 ZL-1 Camaro whereabouts

The car was a blue auto sold new at Martin chevy in Virginia MN. It was a courtesy delivery from Fred Gibb. Sold new to the Virginia mining company. They broke the motor and dropped in a small block. Used it in the motor pool for odd jobs until early 80`s. I friend of mine bought it from a mine employee in 1985. I will dig out and post some photos later this week. He sold the car in 1986 for $24,000 with a fresh yenko block aluminum motor. Earl

Earl...what # was it ?
Nuch... My understanding isChevrolet sent them to Smokey for testing but he concluded they did not really make any more power than they were getting out of the regular crossram engines so the program died.

Yep Charley! That matches what I heard.

Also, regarding the ZL-1 in the Philly area, I remember
hearing about a ZL-1 that was stolen in the area and the
engine was taken out and stored in Chester, PA at a chop-
shop. I had a friend that was well connected with those
"in the know" at the time and he tried to get the engine
himself, but to no avail. I'm sure we all know stories
like that anyway. Anybody know what kind of dollars this
ZL-1 engine was going for? Lastly, why would anyone put a
ZL-1 engine up for bid anywhere except eBay? Where else
can you get so many potential bidders? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: 69 ZL-1 Camaro whereabouts

It is ZL1 number 47. The motor was rebuilt by Wheeler racing engines. They ground off the Yenko casting from the block. It was a replacement Canam style motor. Very clean no rust car. Black interior and column turb 400. I do not know who owns the car today. But it is listed as found on COPO.net. Earl
