Bill, I like your response. Did COPO Chevelles come with front disc brakes from the factory? From what I can see the master cylinder is an after market set up with no bleeders and a after market proportioning valve. I am thinking this is a complete disc brake kit that you would install on a front drum brake car. Was front disc brakes part of the SS package in 1969?

Yes, they were. Pretty sure all COPO's had 'em, too, but I will defer to COPO experts.

...Well at least the car has a more correct '69 style SS steering wheel on it now http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=4553971792 as compared to the '71-72 style SS steering wheel that was on it in the previous auction.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=4540285810 ... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif ...

I'm sure it's worth the extra $$$ now especially with the new POP now and all... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Another POP found, someday maybe I will be so lucky...

[/ QUOTE ]

That's our point here, Dave, highly unlikely that he 'found' the original POP. More likely that it's a made-up one from eBay or from the guy in Florida who advertises every month in Hemmings.

Bains buddy Greg form dpe also makes up fake p.o.p's

Re: Familiar COPO

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Members,

I am going to respond to this, but only once, and I will probably not bother to contribute to this web site again unless directly and respectfully asked to.

This whole thing started with a simple market research project, a simple question in my mind. I had seen many Yenko Replicas that were nice and if they were done right fetched a good amount of money. So I did some poking and proding of the membership to see their thoughts and reactions. My life prior to restoring cars was heavy on the R&D aspect of building products. I didn't see this as anything different. Low and behold though shooting a test sample was different than testing your collective. I'd say they are a bit on the reractionary side. BUT I DID GET TO SEE THE STATE OF THE PEOPLE IN THIS NICHE OF THE USED CAR BUSINESS. And lets be plain about this, this is the used car business. I proceeded to build my car as a date correct COPO, becasue the market research suggested COPO was the hot ticket. My assertion later on was based on a vertually unknown source of GM info at D.P.E. and I did base my cars origin as a COPO on this. Many don't belive it, some do, and at the end of the day I think a lot of the credibility is more about knowing someone really well, the type of people who like to be the shepards of a following and be known as gurus in this field. people who have taken time to work with people and be leaders like Rob Clarey, Tim LaForge, Ed Cunneen, and Alan Colvin to name a few. Mr. Long has spent his time doing other things than writing books and staring web sites. He also worked at GM like many of the above mentioned players. He is quite knowledgeable, and has a following as well.

I have seen the paper Greg has, it does exist, and I have been working with him on many projects at this point. Some hate this man becasue they feel; that he is ruining the hobby. My feeling is that this isn't true. The big reason why is that I am not taking the liability on the claims here, he is! I do have a place to hang my hat and the liability of the claims I am making. Looking at the others in this guru position I see people who will not show their lists and are more than likely using their gm lists and contacts to help themselves, which was confirmed by a couple of members at Yenko.net. Perhaps a few freinds of freinds also get to benefit by their association with the leaders in the various groups I have named. And after tasting the wine I see why, you could spend forever dealing with people who want to find out about their car, while real business is banging down your door, its mostly a waste of time unless it's for your own or your friends restorations project.

I have the ability at this time to authenticate your 1969 MN ME MP & MQ cars, but ask me if I want to and the answer is no unless someone makes it worth my while; I have better things to do, like what you ask?

Well starting in August I wil be beginnig a new comprehensive facility for remanufacturing these cars into modern day pavement pounders that can be driven and of course restorations for real cars as they are identified.

We plan to take the guess work out of this whole industry by implementing the ISO 9000 QC protocols to used parts identification and manufacturing techniques and assembly and much more. I dare say that many of you will end up being my customer.

I am definately not an idiot and I will refrain from stating my opinion about Texas Tornados comments. The car I have is real, and in fact the earliest known COPO Chevelle to exist at this time. ITs a valuable car and it had a nice restoration. I have all the evidence I need at this point, while the people who resist me have nothing but I doubt it, and it just can't be coz blah blah blah, nothing significant. If we went to court those of you who say no would lose coz the perponderance of the evidence is clearly on my side. Way on my side.

IF you want a response from me on anything at this point concerning my car, parts, restoration concepts I will only respond to considerate thoughtful sincere people and requests. If you sling the idiot or moron word around your only hurting yourself, and I will not respond. This thing has come full cirlce, and I am now moving into the market with many GM contacts and skilled professionals, here I come, look for my website in August!

Sincerely,

Al Bain

Actually I think it was a good read. Unfortunately it won't matter if they use ISO 1 million ...his reputation in the "Used Car" market due to this Chevelle fairy tale will always precede him and the car... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif
