Re: Build Sheet: "STATEMENT OF ACCEPTANCE BY CARRIER"
Rick, I think that you have an excellent idea about trying to contact the various trucking companies. I went to the vault and dug out the various build sheets from my green ls6.All say 2 in the lower right corner, even though I found them in different locations. The shipping name on one of the build sheets found in my car,but not for my car is Chicago Ramp, another is Norwood Ramp, also one that says Shipped Via Salt Lake City, my ls6's build sheets say Shipped Via Truckaway, hope this helps.

Re: Build Sheet: "STATEMENT OF ACCEPTANCE BY CARRIER"
When they mention "Ramp",that is in reference to the car being shipped via train route from the assembly plant,to the selling dealer.
Truckaway means just that,it was trucked by a carrier, and usually because it was more local to the plant & more economical then a train route. I believe Kansas Leeds plant was the only one of the 7 Chevelle plants that stated these routes on their Buildsheets. |
Re: Build Sheet: "STATEMENT OF ACCEPTANCE BY CARRIER"
I know there were multiple printers thruout the plant. And that some of these sheets were also carbon copies. The bottom # could be the printer #. Multiple copies of the same sheet / same car would indicate carbon copies.

Re: Build Sheet: "STATEMENT OF ACCEPTANCE BY CARR
My parents both worked in the freight and trucking industry back in that time period. What we all forget is that computers as we know them were not conceived back that far. What we think of computers were actually a simple punch card system, that could be used to keep track of what was shipped or a inventory. Unfortunely those were bulky and took up a lot of room. So they were tossed many years ago.
I can remember the huge room of clacking machines that were at mothers office when I visited back in 1960. I know they were still in use a few years later. I am sure that GM with their big bucks may have had a better way to trace the cars back then but the info is probably on a spool of tape or something like that.
