Just to clarify - gmpartsdirect.com has the ORIGINAL GM grille, not a GM resto piece. This will be in a GM box, with GM part/casting numbers on it. They are a GM dealer. The grille has not been discontinued by GM at this point.

New GM as opposed to NOS is fine, but has anyone else noticed that many of the genuine GM new parts are poor quality? Specifically window cranks, Camaro header script and more that escape me at the moment. I'll take a quality repro any day on some of these.

Thanks Rainer! I'll check that out. I think the grille the guy has is probably the same one as he told me today that he bought it in 1997.

It had been hit at some point and needed to be racked to bring the body mount into place. I decided that I didn't want to go through that hassle at the same time as I was doing the Chevelle, so I put it on ebay and sold it. This grille is readily available through Chevrolet Parts,but you can get it through some none chevy dealers for near $100.00.
Always could,as they really never stopped producing it.
There is a variation of this grille,but only the early design reflects original foot print.
Early meaning mfd. in the 1970's-early 80's.
Around the late 80's,when reproduction parts began to see a demand,GM outsourced this part overseas,& although it shared the same part #,it is not EXACTLY as the Factory intended.
Look on the original box first to see what it's time period is,for one.
I real Assembly line NOS grille,brought near $800.00 last time I checked.

Yes, I am building a '70 Chevelle, however I am starting out with a '74 Vega, so I need a lot of parts https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Actually doing a frame off on the DY LS6 and am replacing what needs to be replaced to bring it to #1 status. Some of the stuff I listed earlier is not needed as there was a little misinformation given to me that has been corrected now. I'm sure you'll see more wanted ads after the car is torn down in the next week or two.

Sorry, missed the part about "how bad is the DY LS6". Actually, the car is super solid and mostly complete. It does have 111,000 miles on it, so it is a tired ol' gal. The usual stuff has been changed underhood like the starter, alt, distributor, water pump etc., but all the critical drivetrain components are there. The right front fender has a tear in it that I don't want to patch (don't want any chance of bubbles or cracking in the future), so I bought an NOS fender. I originally thought the quarters needed replaced because of "cut wheel lips", but they were actually rolled up and will easily roll back down again - so quarters aren't needed. Not a spec of rust under the car or on the chassis. It's really just a matter of restoring and replacing parts to bring it back to "as new" condition.
