Re: Fencl Tufo Chevrolet Hi Performance Vin Numbers
The name of the dealership sounds weird. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
Mr. Ed's brother Bobby has a pin that he used to wear on his suit that said "Whats a Fencl Tufo?" I am doing my best at trying to pry it out of his hands! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif The owners names were Dick Fencl & John Tufo |

I'll take two Frank. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif
I can still see that mid 70's corney Fencl-Tufo Monster hand puppet Commercial with the tagline,"Your Monster Dealer!" https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif |

No Verne. The dealer did not become Fencl Tufo till I believe 1968. Correction Verne. The dealership opened in 1967. [/ QUOTE ] Well, take a look at this auction. Bet noone noticed that dealer stamp, sold in Feb 68. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...;category=6161 http://i4.ebayimg.com/01/i/04/67/72/18_3.JPG |
Re: Fencl Tufo Chevrolet Hi Performance Vin Numbers
Very cool Kurt. Actually that was a different dealership all together. Dick Fencl the owner ended up selling that dealership shortly after that car was sold. He bought interest in Fencl Tufo Chevrolet in 1967.

Dick Fencl the owner ended up selling that dealership shortly after that car was sold.... [/ QUOTE ] ...and Dick Fencl Chevrolet then became Brigance Chevrolet, correct?? |
Re: Fencl Tufo Chevrolet Hi Performance Vin Numbers
No, they were also two different dealers but close in proximity to each other. When Dick Fencl closed GM closed the point all together. The same situation with Brigance which closed I believe February 16th 1975. There has never been another Chevy dealership in Oak Park since which is suprising because the area is so affluent. The town has a population of 50,000+ people with a median income of 63,000 and an average home price of 275K.
Fencl Tufo closed in 1988-89 due to bad business practices. Rumor has it that John Tufo had a bad gambling problem. The dealership became Quality Chevrolet for a short time then is now called Sunrise Chevrolet. |

OK Mr. Fencl Tufo Historian... what can you tell me about this photo? (Other than you want it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif)
Note the Jim Wangers Chevrolet billboard in the background...and the "302" lettering on the fender. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
