Re: 1970 440-6pak w/dana r/t challenger found!!!!!

It's a trim option for the interior and exterior, the most notable being leather interior surfaces and a smaller rear window. However, the SE was its own bodystyle, so there could not be ragtop. Some people with leather Challenger ragtops sometimes think they have an SE, but they don't. Likewise, there was an option package (A63?) that consisted of much of the SE trim and was available on the R/T hardtops and ragtops.

The Challenger R/T-SE had a "formal roof" with a fiberglass plug that contained a smaller rear window. It also came with a leather interior and ceiling console. It had it's own VIN sequence that differentiated it from the regular Challengers: JS23 was an R/T hardtop, JS27 was an R/T convertible and JS29 was an R/T-SE hardtop. 442W30 is correct, there was never an R/T-SE convertible built. You could order an R/T convertible with the leather interior, but that did not make it an R/T-SE.

If you want to know about R/T-SE Chargers, I can tell you a whole bunch more about them https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

It still sounds like a nice restoration project (though you couldn't get a/c with a six-pack, it was available only on the four barrel engine) If you have the first 5 digits of the VIN I can give you a definitive answer. -NJSteve

Re: 1970 440-6pak w/dana r/t challenger found!!!!!

It's been a few years since I've seen it, and longer since i've looked under the hood. It is a 440 six though, we decoded it at the time he bought it 3 of us had AAR's at the time and knew the basics of Chryslers VIN info. The six pack and the air cleaner sat in his basement for years, because the carbs needed work and he didn't want to bother with them. It think the manifold carbs and air cleaner were in the trunk when he bought it as it had an edelbrock manifold and a holley 4bbl when I first saw it, which wasn't long after he picked it up.

It may not have had A/C although it had just about everything else, two option plate tags worth of them on the inner fender, even had a luggage rack on the trunk lid, although I don't know if that was factory or a later add-on. It was (is) red with a white top, and black interior, white RT stripes. He didn't like the white stripes or the luggage rack so neither went back on after it was repainted. I'll have to see if I've got any old photos of it.

That tag belongs to a plain-Jane, green, 318-powered 1970 Challenger hardtop. I hope it doesn't match your car's VIN.
