Re: 1969 nos chambered exhust

Chrome tail pipes were never included with chambered exhaust. The letter informing dealers that chrome tailpipes would be included with dual exhaust [May '69} also stated that chambered exhaust had been dropped as an option.

The ebay system is a mixture of incorrect parts. Original chambered systems used 1 welded rear muffler/tail pipe assembly [LH I think] with the RH rear muffler using a slip-in tail pipe. The other 2 mufflers are in the exhaust pipes. The system on ebay shows 2 RH rear mufflers and standard 2nd design chromed tail pipes.

Once again, Barnum is right. He could have invented ebay.

Ditto, chambered never had chrome tail pipes and i believe the right side tail pipe is welded on originals.

------This is the first time back since I made the post about chambered exhaust on a 68. Forgot to proofread. My bad, I hit the wrong key, fellas. Obviously, I meant 69. I actually have a small Polaroid somewhere that shows the chrome tips, and the car definetly had chambered exhaust.
------Car was garnet red with a white vinyl top and hockeystick, along with black standard interior. Also had cowl hood, ps, pb, am/fm, console, and guages. Also rally wheels and Tigerpaw white letter tires. It was kind of neat because it didnt have the spoilers. I always liked that. Never asked back then if the car was ordered on spec or just not sold to the original orderer.........Bill S

Sorry I just do not trust anyone's memory when it comes to this stuff. Check the Chevy P & A manuals-there only two part numbers: 3965630 for the welded RH muffler/tailpipe assy and 3965631 for the LH tailpipe and they were not chromed. Chrome tailpipes for standard exhaust entered production May '69 after chambered was discontinued as an option and the tailpipes do not interchange. I bought a complete chambered system new in 1975 and it had aluminized tailpipes. I also have the pictues to prove it.

If your car had chrome tailpipes it did not have chambered exhaust.

Does the NOS chambered tail pipes have a part # stamped in them? Thanks, Sam

-------My 69 had chrome tips and chambered exhaust. We will just have to agree to disagree, William, as I had what I had!.........Bill S
