I would check for the dual exhaust plate mounted to the frame on the driver's side next. Also, get the #'s off the rear. It does sound like a car someone was building into a Z28 clone though.

Thanks to all of you that replied. I guess that you have me at a loss for the LSide muffler mount but I will give it a look when I go for the rearend numbers just as soon as it drys out.

The S/N is 124379N609995 is that any help?

Sounds like someone put those RS adapters on the standard fenders to allow mounting the RS grill and headlights. Does it look like the stripes on the header panel come from both sides and then almost meet in the middle but curve towards the windshield as they would be heading up the hood? I see the hood has hood pin holes in it but it looks like a metal hood, is it?

If you look real close at the front end pic you can just make out the 6" stripe on the front header just to the right of the hood pin hole about the width of the strip. In my opinion it is not anything factory but someones mickymouse attempt at a stripe and to put them there would look out of place to me, on such a neat looking car. I see that the S/N could have been the source of a missed chance to cause a riot on here if I had just mistyped it as N609965. (Grin) Of course it being only 30 off of a ZL-1 car could be a sign it was something special? Someone either went to a lot of work to collect all these goodies and put them on one car or it was something special ordered that way. It would be interesting to find out. Is there a chance that the build sheet may still be inside somewhere? where should I look? To me it looks like it has not been repainted too many times. The L front fender at one time came off another (Blue) car. The the rest of the car is orange underneath except for the Hood which shows to be black primer underneath, like it came from the parts dept at chev. I am certain that it is a 12 bolt 4:10 as I checked that before I bought the car. The sun has finally come out so I may get to look at it better tomorrow if it doesn't rain anymore. I don't see a LS exaust hanger mount? Should it not be at the top of the arc for the rearend? It does have 5 leaf springs. No tach on the dash. 120 mph speedo, 4 speed console shift,(no factory Gauges) (bought it back in '88 so I guess I missed on that one. they just look like it through the window. The ole memory is not what it used to be. Been too long since I gave it a thorough look)

The sun just came out and I just now give it a hard once over and from what I learned at SYC6, I see now that it could not be a RS front end. They just screwed the front grill on over the stock Camaro headlights. This grill is new and not off another car. It must have been all they could get from Chev to try to help sell it. OH ?Well? In fact after looking it over I see that it is just a plain jane camaro with some good parts put on it. I guess I will not worry about it and just enjoy it as a hot little street machine. I will have to get it fixed up some and perhaps sell it someday. I do need a stock grill for it so if anybody has one that is not perfect enough for their restoration but is still all there and cheap, let me know?

Got any pics of it from back in the day?

No I just bought it for the youngest kid and then figgured it was too fast for him after I hammered it all the way through the gears. We bought him a different camaro that just wasn't near as fast.

Did you say it has a small block in it but has a big block heater box?

Sounds like a 307 or 350 car.
What the axle code? The axle code is located on the passenger side axle tube. Look under 'Decoding' on the CRG website for a great sketch of the location.
