Re: 69 396 ss camaro
Red;
Can you tell if the car was orig. a 325, 350 or 375horse car? M |
Re: 69 396 ss camaro
The car came with the original 325hp, 396 engine in a crate. A roller 427 is sitting in the car. It's a gorgeous black/black 4 speed car. I got it home on the 15th and drove it over the weekend. I absolutely love the car. It hasbeen 20 years since I had one like it.

Re: 69 396 ss camaro
Sounds awesome. I can't wait until my 69 Z28 JL8 crossram, TI, heater delete, radio delete car is finished. It's probably still going to be another year before it's done, but I have a supercharged 93 Z28 Indy 500 Pace Car that I drive every day so I'm not hurting for a powerfull car. Good luck with your SS396.

Re: 69 396 ss camaro
It is not just the power, but how the 1969 functions as a magical time machine.

Re: 69 396 ss camaro
That is So right Stefano.
These cars with their Bias-Plys and solid lifters, sure have more character then todays automobiles. |
Re: 69 396 ss camaro
I don't know, these newer Camaros have awesome powerplants that kick some serious butt, run smooth and get good gas mileage. My 93 Indy Pace Car is already going on 9 years old and it runs smooth and strong. The car sits a little too low to the ground, but it handles great, runs in the 12's and stops awesome with the 4 wheel disc. I can't wait until I can drive my 69 Z28 crossram though.

Re: 69 396 ss camaro
Hello All
Jeff good luck with your Z28. Super neat car. Is it a factory crossram,JL8 car? Stefano and Mr 70 you guys are so right about the mystic of these cars. I'm sure impressed with the boards knowledge. Especially when you gents expose a fake car for sale out there. Thanks again to all |
Re: 69 396 ss camaro
Jeff H,
The new cars are certainly awsome, especially from a factory performance perspective. I have put more than a few through their paces, but for me, everytime I look , sit , drive or work on one, of these "Muscle Cars", It takes me to a different place and time. Not that there is any thing worse about today or tomorrow, they just take me back. I don't want to sound like an oldtimer as I could be the Grandson of Guys ssl78s age https://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif [Edited by Stefano (02-20-2002 at 11:57 PM).] |
Re: 69 396 ss camaro
I will be the first to say that working on these newer cars is a PITA! Have you ever looked at the engine and counted the # of spark plug wires you can actually see? The answer is 0! The older musclecars have a persona all their own and they are easy and fun to work on. Redbaron, no my car was not a factory crossram car since there were no factory crossram cars built. It was a dealer option you could buy at the parts counter. It is a factory installed JL8 car with documentation. I'm adding the crossram, heater delete, radio delete and TI to replicate a Trans Am prepped car.
