Why did they decide to end it?

CC Rider 07-28-2025 02:08 PM

From what I understand, it all came down to expenses.

When Mark Kramer owned the McDonalds, he basically paid for almost everything, including event insurance. Since his passing, two other owners have taken over that McDonalds over the years, none of which had any interest in funding the car show.

That left the landlord to fund it, and did so for a few years. However, a few slip n fall type law suits along with funding extra security to patrol the later hours of stupidness made the show too expensive for the landlord to continue funding it. That's when an event group was hired in 2024 to run it. That group was to eventually fund the show and make money off of running it, which never happened. The late night silliness continued which pissed the landlord off, so they decided to cancel it.

There are more details that contributed to the downfall, but that's for another day.

I hope that the "late night silliness" does not follow into Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers.

Thanks for filling in the blanks. Such a shame, but I guess I understand.

The events that were so good for so long here in Austin were eventually cancelled due to stupid activities by people. The liability from a car losing it and hurting someone is too great for a business to absorb.

Would it really be the business at fault though if it's happening on a public street? Once you're off the "private" property you're pretty much on your own. So liability is kinda gone at that point.

In all honesty, if something happened to your car on the property, McD's isn't going to be responsible for it anyway. Things have happened at the pavs before and I don't recall hearing McD's stepping up for the repairs.

I'm not trying to sound like a jerk but the whole ordeal got way over complicated. Most people I've talked to already knew the owner wasn't a fan. Far as I'm concerned, the current owner, or may have been the previous after Mark since it's been a while, I've talked to her, and I got the vibe she wasn't interested in any of the car activity and that's when I quit spending money in the place. I enjoyed Barro's Pizza more anyway and would just walk over there and get my food. I knew it was a matter of time. Hope they enjoy the drop in business on Saturday nights.

In Austin, it was burnouts in the parking lot, they tried to curtail it, but it kept happening. Yes, an incident would be directly tied to the business, and they could be held liable. Even the police couldn't keep up with the riffraff doing burnouts. I don't like the liability situation, but it is a fact, and it ended our fun.

Lol yeah burnouts in the parking lot would be an issue. I never witnessed that at the pavs in the 20 years Ive gone. Not saying it didnt happen but I never saw that. Would be hard to pull that off as there were always cops walking the lot and watching the traffic. I never saw any remnants of burnout activity on the property either.
Now out in the street was a different story. But I see that nearly everywhere. I would typically pull out the back way towards the fields. Not so much because of the horsing around, I just preferred to avoid the traffic.

Adam’s Polishes has stepped up to host half of the car shows.

Well this is unfortunate. I'm one of the many snowbirds who looked forward to taking in Pavilions during the winter months when we were in Arizona.

RIP, it sure was fun while it was running.
