Grim, you’re looking for the 2nd and 3rd gear rod for a 70 Nova, correct?

I can see heavier and or straighter rods for banging gears but the rod you are asking about is not a stressed component.

Trying to verify the lower rod for the reverse lockout.

The number on the upper rod I have is 5599. In 69 the two hole mount for 4sp was shared by bb and sb, Only the lower rod was changed.
In the pic the left is the 3 hole called out for automatic and the right is the two hole mount for 4sp and the Muncie 3sp..I think.

Camaro and nova being the same was hoping someone had or parted a L48 car with this setup.

Grim,

The 1969 & 1970 Nova 350 and 396 could only have the MC1 Special 3-Speed (E.g. the HD Muncie 3-Speed). They wouldn't have the Saginaw 3-Speed referenced in the AIM.

See how everything is (ex HD). Also those are the shifter control rods.

Grim,

Grim,

In parts book parlance you need to look for Chevy or Nova with 3-speed floor shift. MC1 was only available in floor shift. Also use a parts book as close to model year as possible. Later books have superseded numbers or in some cases, just list the next best available part in.

Here is what I found in the February 1969 Parts Book

69 Chevy, Camaro w/Muncie H.D. 3-Spd (350) 3950169 1st and Reverse
69 Chevy, Camaro w/Muncie H.D. 3-Spd (350) 3950171 2nd & 3rd
69 Chevy, Camaro w/Muncie H.D. 3-Spd (396) 3950173 1st and Reverse
69 Chevy, Camaro w/Muncie H.D. 3-Spd (396) 3950175 2nd & 3rd
69 Chevy, Camaro (floor shift w/3-Spd), 69 Chevy, Camaro w/4-Spd (exc. 4BC) 3955767 Rod, Control Lock

Sounds like the lower control rod (3955767) was the same on the H.D. 3-speed and L65 4-speed.

In October 1970 there is a bit more information

69-70 Chevy, Camaro w/Muncie H.D. 3-Spd (350) 3950169 1st and Reverse
69 Chevy, Camaro w/Muncie H.D. 3-Spd (350) 3950171 2nd & 3rd
69 Chevy, Camaro w/Muncie H.D. 3-Spd (396) 3950173 1st and Reverse
69 Chevy, Camaro w/Muncie H.D. 3-Spd (396) 3950175 2nd & 3rd
69 Chevy, Camaro (floor shift w/3-Spd), 69 Chevy, Camaro w/4-Spd (exc. 4BC), 70 Nova (Saginaw 3,4-Spd with floor controls) 3955767 Rod, Control Lock

Which sounds like the lower control rod (3955767) was also used with the 1970 Saginaw floor shift. In 1971 it is the only one listed for floor shift.

3955767 replaced 3950165 in December 1968. 3955767 was replaced by 332605 in June of 1973.

Does any of this help?

Greg
