Yes, that was the reason the Teak Wheel was discontinued.
Extremely hard wood the was used on the deck of the battleship New Jersey.

Agreed, the 65-66 teak wheel is gorgeous!
I bought this wheel in 1975 at the Bob McDorman Corvette show in Columbus Ohio. Paid a huge price at the time, $300, but it’s minty.

----Chris,,,Of all the teak wheels I have ever seen and owned, I have never seen a broken or splintered one. I have seen a couple that became de-laminated due to bad care. While living in Ft. Lauderdale in the early 70's I once missed by an hour buying 25 teak wheels that a guy was selling due to his need for bail money. I was lucky a couple of years ago and scored an NOS one that's hanging on the wall in my cave!....Bill S

That looks almost like Tahoe Turquoise for the 67 Camaro.

Love the advertising from the 1965 Pontiac consumer catalog on this steering wheel.
They may be alluding to the 65-66 Teakwood steering wheel (last 2 photos) that could splinter badly in an accident.

This teakwood wheel of which you speak - is that a Corvette part?

Or are you saying there was a teakwood wheel available for GTO in '65-'66?
