Well, he (original owner) did say that the diff was factory ordered and took 3 months to arrive.....with the car. No sure if that means it was a "special order"

The original dealer was Lange and Runkel, which is long gone now.

Two to three months would be about right for a special ordered car, regardless of the diff I think.

----The one 375 Camaro I saw in 67 was ordered with a 4.56 gear. The different part was that it was delivered in the trunk along with GM part numbered OK Custom headers. Can't remember, but I'm pretty sure it had no extra non-racing options. It was white with a black int....Bill S

Possibly a silly question but what is the significance of a "special order" car? How many of the 1100 L78 Camaro's where "special order"?

L72copocamaro 06-13-2023 04:42 AM

Generally speaking, a customer would "special order" a car to their personal specifications. Dealers would order cars with a variety of options and colors trying to anticipate what buyers were looking for or may be interested in. A lot of times, the cars were bare bones with few or no options. The same applies today.

There is no way to know how many were special ordered by customers vs dealer stock.

Love the car and the color (T-T)!

I never knew the option existed before I got this car, so yes, a bit unusual. I know the original owner was street racing the car and perhaps thought the fold down arm rest offered a little more lateral support.

Friend bought a 67 Camaro SS 350 in 1976. Had a bench seat and a column shift automatic. Was a neat car. Gas cap was SS 350, so an early car?

At only 9 yrs old, there's a good chance it was. A number of later build restorations put that cap on now.

Was the horn button an SS 350 also ?

I was feeling neglected, so thought I would upload some more images to get some attention. First image is the as received condition with a replacement front end, then there is the diff stamped code and the vin plate in the door jamb.
