The GM #1050104 Chassis reconditioning paint is still available from several of the the specialty parts houses. Not sure if it is still the same formula as originally (or if available in gallons) but back in the day (mid to late 80's) at the Corvette restoration shop I worked at we used it extensively and even had a small-ish dip tank we used for brackets and accessories when restoring them. This was when people were just starting to understand the factory process for painting things and the restoration houses were trying to duplicate those processes - flaws and all.

In regards to Chuck's question about durability - probably not even close to modern paint technologies available today. Back then we'd use Sikkens Rally Black or DuPont Imron with a flattener if you wanted something more durable.

Paul,

I'd reach out to Lloyd and ask him what he is using.

I looked through Chick's thread and did not see anything definitive as to what they used in his 68.

Can't wait to see the continued progress!

I use RM UNO HD SC804 for parts and components that call for 30% - 50% gloss, its a single stage product (catalyzed) that is easy to apply (read "forgiving"), durable, and once I learned the technique, I can adjust the gloss on the fly from the base 30% (out of the can) to about 50%. I like RM UNO so much that I've also custom blended it with RM UNO Gloss Black (SC403) for higher gloss finishes up to about 80%.

Mitch, it was a trial & error process for me (I use a Sata X 5500 RP gun), I spray a slightly heavier second coat (slower pass, full paint volume) at higher pressure (27 vs 25 psi) which brings the gloss up the range to closer to 50%.

Many thanks to all who responded. The UNO HD looks like it might be the ticket. I’m sending your posts via screenshot to the painter, Lloyd, much appreciated.
